It’s been two whole years since VanMoof, the Dutch creators of advanced electric bikes, went bankrupt in 2023. Now, they’re back with two new high-end electric bike models. VanMoof has launched the new S6 series e-bikes, which includes both the S6 and the S6 Open. Even though they share many features, there are a few differences between the two.
Common Features
Both the VanMoof S6 and S6 Open come with a 250 W front wheel hub motor that delivers 68 Nm of torque, enabling acceleration support up to 25 kph (15.5 mph) and offering four levels of motor assistance. Each bike is equipped with a 487 Wh battery, which lets riders go for as far as 150 km (93 miles) on a single charge. Unlike many other e-bikes, the battery cannot be removed, so charging must be done while it’s still on the bike, taking approximately 6 hours and 30 minutes to fully recharge.
Size and Weight Differences
The main difference lies in their sizes. To be specific, the S6 measures 1815 x 1051 x 654 mm (71.4 x 41.3 x 25.7 inches) and weighs about 23.5 kg (51.8 lbs). In contrast, the S6 Open is a bit smaller and lighter, with dimensions of 1671 x 1026 x 654 mm (65.7 x 40.3 x 25.7 inches) and a weight of 22.5 kg (49.6 lbs). According to the company, the S6 is ideal for riders between 165 and 210 cm in height (~5.4-6.8 ft), while the S6 Open fits those between 155 and 200 cm (~4.11-6.5 ft).
Wheel Size and App Support
Additionally, the two models come with different wheel sizes: the S6 features 27.5” wheels, while the S6 Open has 24” wheels. The S6 series also supports the VanMoof companion app, allowing riders to customize their rides and adjust other settings. Other features include automatic rider recognition for touch unlocking, a kick lock, an alarm system, built-in Apple FindMy, an auto-shifting rear hub, and anti-theft nuts and bolts.
The VanMoof S6 series is available in blue, light grey, and black, starting at €3,298 (~$3,750). Reservations can be made now, starting with a deposit of €150. Deliveries are anticipated to commence in August. For more information on the S6 series e-bikes, visit VanMoof’s official website.
