Insta360 Launches Ace Pro 2 Action Camera to Compete with GoPro 13

Insta360 has introduced the Ace Pro 2, a tough new action camera that expands its lineup. Collaborating once again with the esteemed camera brand Leica, the company has incorporated unique color profiles thanks to their expert input. Released in November 2023, the Ace Pro 2 is a successor to the Ace Pro, bringing notable enhancements and innovative AI features.

    Competing Models

This new device competes with the recently launched DJI OSMO Action 5 Pro and GoPro Hero 13 Black. We previously discussed the OSMO Action 5 Pro and Hero 13 Black, which you can find here. The Ace Pro 2 boasts dual AI chips: one for image processing and the other for the overall camera performance. While it retains the same sensor as its predecessor, the 1/1.3” sensor has been refined. It offers a 157-degree field of view, allowing for shooting in 8K at 30fps, 4K at 120fps for slow motion, or 4K at 60fps with Active HDR.

    Enhanced Display and Battery Life

The Ace Pro 2 features a larger, brighter, and more durable 2.5-inch flip-up screen compared to the previous model. A significant improvement is the upgraded 1,800mAh battery, an increase from the 1650mAh in the Ace Pro, providing 50% longer battery life when filming in 4K at 30fps. It supports fast charging, with an 18-minute charge delivering up to 80% battery life.

The waterproof capabilities have also been enhanced, allowing users to take the Ace Pro 2 underwater up to 39 feet (around 12 meters) without needing a protective case. It can also endure extreme temperatures ranging from -4° F (20°C) to 45°C.

    Additional Features

Among the other features are AI highlight assistant, gesture and voice control, and advanced noise reduction. Insta360 has also integrated a new wind guard for improved audio clarity, which was absent in the previous model. Plus, there’s a removable lens guard for extra safeguarding.

You can purchase the Insta360 Ace Pro 2 Standard bundle for $399.99 / £389.99 through Insta360’s official website or on Amazon. There’s also a dual battery bundle available for $419.99 / £409.99. For more details, visit the product page for the Insta360 Ace Pro 2.

  • Insta360 Ace Pro 2 Leaks: Upgrades Rival GoPro Hero 13 & DJI Osmo 5

Insta360 Ace Pro 2 Leaks: Upgrades Rival GoPro Hero 13 & DJI Osmo 5

Both DJI and GoPro have introduced new action cameras this month. DJI has launched the Osmo Action 5 Pro, while GoPro has unveiled the Hero 13 Black and the more affordable Hero, which is currently priced at $199.99 on Amazon. Reports suggest that Insta360 is also preparing to announce a new model soon.

Early Details on the Ace Pro 2

At the beginning of the month, initial information regarding the Ace Pro 2 surfaced through hands-on leaks. Recently, multiple sources have provided a first glimpse of the retail packaging, which we have included below. It appears that Insta360 is focusing significantly on the camera’s ability to record in 8K video resolution, a feature that both the Hero 13 Black and Osmo Action 5 Pro do not possess.

    Key Features and Performance

The leaked retail packaging indicates that the Ace Pro 2 will support a maximum of 30 FPS when recording in 8K at a 16:9 aspect ratio. Additionally, the same image suggests that the camera can operate for over 3 hours on a single charge while capturing 8K/30 FPS footage. To achieve smoother 60 FPS video, however, it may need to lower its resolution.

Currently, it is uncertain if the Action Pro 2 will be able to deliver this at 4K like its predecessor or offer a higher resolution, such as 5.3K. The label of the Action Pro 2 as an "AI-Powered Action Cam" hints that Insta360 could be incorporating certain algorithmic techniques to improve image quality in various ways. Unfortunately, the release date and pricing details for the Ace Pro 2 remain unknown.

DJI Osmo Action 5 Pro Leaks: 40MP Camera Specs & Price

DJI’s emphasis on the cost-effective Neo drone may have diverted attention from their action camera developments, but recent leaks indicate that the Osmo Action 5 Pro is set to become a focal point. This action camera is poised to compete directly with the newly released Hero 13 Black.

    Unofficial Details Emerge

DJI has yet to make any official announcements, but credible leaker @Quadro_News has revealed some details about the camera’s specifications. The Osmo Action 5 Pro is rumored to include a 1/1.3-inch sensor with a 40MP resolution and a 155-degree field of view, allowing it to capture expansive scenes.

    Impressive Recording and Battery Capabilities

The camera’s video capabilities reportedly peak at 4K resolution with a smooth 120 frames per second. It will also feature “SuperNight Slow-Motion Modes” for capturing slow-motion video. According to @Quadro_News, the battery life is expected to be quite decent, offering up to four hours of recording on a single charge. In terms of connectivity, it will support Bluetooth 5.0 and Wi-Fi 6.

    Storage and Audio Features

Storage is unlikely to be an immediate issue, as the action camera is said to include 47GB of built-in storage, expandable up to 1 TB via a microSD card. As for audio, the Osmo Action 5 Pro is expected to come with three stereo microphones.

    Software and Pricing Speculations

The anticipated software features include 360° HorizonSteady, Live Stream, OsmoAudio, Subject Centering & Tracking, and Voice Control. While pricing details remain somewhat unclear, @Quadro_News suggests that the “Adventure Combo” with various accessories might be priced between €450-€490, which is approximately $520-$570 USD. The projected launch date is September 12th, so official details should be available soon.

  • DJI Osmo Action 5 Pro: First ‘Pro’ Action Camera from DJI

DJI Osmo Action 5 Pro: First ‘Pro’ Action Camera from DJI

It’s been almost a year since DJI introduced the Osmo Action 4, a commendable mid-range action camera that positioned itself as a competitor to GoPro's products.

Since that release, DJI has diverted its attention to other camera categories, unveiling new RS camera gimbals and drones like the Avata 2 and Mini 4K, each catering to various budgets and needs. There are even whispers about a forthcoming Air 3S drone.

    Market Activity and Competitors

While DJI has remained relatively silent on the action camera front since the Osmo Action 4, competitors such as GoPro (with its Hero 12 Black) and Insta360 (with models like the Ace, Ace Pro, X4, and Go 3S) have continued to release new products. However, recent leaks indicate that DJI may soon re-enter the action camera market.

A filing with the UAE’s Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority (TDRA), uncovered by trusted leak source @Quadro_News, hints that DJI’s next action camera will be named the Osmo Action 5 Pro.

    Speculations and Expected Features

The filing doesn’t provide many details, only associating the model number AC004 with the marketing name “Osmo Action 5 Pro.” The term “Pro” is noteworthy, as it is the first time DJI has used it in their action camera range, possibly indicating significant upgrades.

The Osmo Action 4 came equipped with a 1/1.3-inch CMOS sensor. Rumors now suggest that the Osmo Action 5 Pro might adopt the 1-inch sensor seen in DJI’s Osmo Pocket 3 handheld camera. This enhancement could make the Osmo Action 5 Pro a strong contender against models like the Insta360 One R, which features a Leica-co-engineered 1-inch sensor, and the 8K-capable Insta360 Ace Pro.

    Anticipated Launch

The leak does not specify when the Action 5 will be released. However, considering DJI’s previous release patterns, a global launch for the Osmo Action 5 series in summer 2024 seems plausible.
