Airbound Delivery Drone Startup Secures $1.7 Million Funding

Hijacking and theft are not the only issues that plague today’s air delivery drones; their weight and high delivery costs are also major concerns. Airbound is a startup aiming to address these challenges by drastically reducing the weight of drone hardware by an impressive 30 times. This reduction could lead to delivery expenses of "just a few cents" when their technology is adopted at scale. Recently, the company emerged from obscurity with a seed funding round of $1.7 million. Their list of investors includes several unnamed angel investors, along with Lightspeed and gradCapital.

    Innovative Drone Design

According to their press release, Airbound’s blended wing body tailsitter design, called TRT, is designed to "reduce delivery costs by two orders of magnitude compared to traditional options." This drone not only promises to be the lightest but also the safest in the market. The current design already weighs three times less than its main competitors and boasts a fourfold enhancement in aerodynamic efficiency.

    Commitment to Excellence

"We looked at every system in our vehicles to cut down weight, boost safety and reliability, and improve efficiency. We created new techniques to make carbon fiber, allowing us to drop our airframe weight from 6 pounds to just 400 grams. Our mission isn’t solely about crafting a top-notch drone—we envision a future where delivery is virtually free," states Naman Pushp, the Founder and CEO of Airbound.

At present, Airbound is employing the TRT drone for medical deliveries, particularly for transporting blood samples to testing facilities. They plan to expand their services to include food and grocery deliveries, although the timeline for this is still unclear. The company has reported that their drones have already flown "thousands of kilometers."

DJI Neo Update Boosts Speed, Tracking, and Key Features

DJI has recently launched its smallest drone, but it hasn’t been long since its release, and the company is already replacing the Neo with several new models. To give you some context, DJI released the Osmo Action 5 Pro (currently priced at $349 on Amazon) before bringing out the Air 3S and Goggles N3 just this past week.

    Goggles N3 and Software Update

The introduction of the Goggles N3 plays a crucial role in the Neo’s latest software upgrade, which DJI is now making available worldwide. This new update is identified by the build number v01.00.0400 and comes with a series of enhancements for Neo accessories. Notably, v01.00.0400 adds compatibility for the Goggles N3, which presents a more advanced FPV headset option compared to the older Goggles 3.

    Enhancements and Features

DJI has also rolled out live view stabilization for both headsets when they are connected to the Neo. Additionally, v01.00.0400 is expected to improve positioning performance during flights and includes support for vertical shooting. Moreover, DJI’s Mobile App Control now allows for full manual controls when live streaming in full-screen mode.

    Performance Improvements

Moreover, v01.00.0400 aims to enhance the Neo’s flight speed while tracking a subject, although the exact increase and new maximum speed remain unclear. At long last, users can also record audio with either the DJI RC-N3 or DJI RC-N2 remote controllers. Finally, DJI has added a noise reduction feature that it claims will maintain the surrounding sounds. For further details, check out DJI’s forum announcement.

  • DJI Neo Mini Camera Drone Leak: Smaller Than DJI Mini

DJI Neo Mini Camera Drone Leak: Smaller Than DJI Mini

A recent video leak and certification information reveal that DJI’s forthcoming Neo mini camera drone is both smaller and lighter than the DJI Mini. The leaked video showcases the unreleased DJI Neo, while an FCC certification leak suggests that the model is nearing its official launch.

DJI, a prominent leader in the drone industry, boasts an impressive and expanding range of drones designed for various applications. Several DJI models, such as the DJI Mavic 4 and DJI Osmo Action 5, have leaked but are yet to be officially launched. The new DJI Neo targets users of mini-camera drones. Although the DJI Mini series includes some compact models, the Neo promises to be even smaller and lighter.

    Specifications and Features

The forthcoming DJI Neo is a professional-grade mini drone, weighing in at approximately 170 grams. Despite its small size, it’s not the smallest on the market—smaller nano drones like the HoverAir X1 weigh just 130 grams. The HoverAir X1 is foldable and self-flying, setting up a competitive landscape for the DJI Neo. The FCC certification confirms the Neo’s name, but technical specifics are sparse. Reports suggest that the DJI Neo houses a 1,435mAh battery, and a recent video by drone tipster OsitaLV showed the drone in action.

The DJI Neo is speculated to offer up to 15 minutes of flight time, equipped with a smaller battery compared to the DJI Mini 4 Pro. It appears suitable for both indoor and outdoor use, featuring a propeller cage and a single-axis gimbal-stabilized camera. The leaked video did not confirm the drone’s foldability or self-flying capabilities. The model in the video is operated with a classic controller, implying it may not be self-flying.

    Release and Pricing

DJI has yet to officially announce details about the rumored DJI Neo mini camera drone. However, it is anticipated that the model is close to an official release. Specific pricing and release details are expected to follow soon.

  • DJI Neo Compact Drone Leaked in Video and Retail Listing with Price

DJI Neo Compact Drone Leaked in Video and Retail Listing with Price

DJI appears to be gearing up for several new drone releases. Speculation points to a mid-range Air 3S and a high-end Magic 4 drone. However, DJI might also be preparing to launch something entirely unique – a pocket-sized drone named the Neo.

    Rumors and Leaks

Whispers of this compact DJI drone began circulating following a post on X (formerly Twitter) by insider @DroneMood. This post included an image of a US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) registration label for the DJI Neo, with the model number DN1A0626. Additionally, the label disclosed the drone’s battery capacity, which is 1435mAh or 10.5Wh.

    DJI Neo FCC Listing

The post also featured screenshots from a video shared by another X user, @OsitaLV, depicting the drone in use. The video, embedded below, showcases a very small drone with what seems to be a built-in propeller guard.

Interestingly, the lack of an FPV headset in the leaked video suggests that the Neo could be intended as a ‘hover’ drone, similar to the HoverAir X1, rather than a cinewhoop model. This implies it might be geared towards selfie-style aerial photography and straightforward flight operations.

    Specifications and Price

Drone expert Weiliang Zhang, based on the battery specs, estimates that the DJI Neo could weigh around 169 grams and may have a flight duration of approximately 15 minutes with a full-axis gimbal.

Though DJI has not officially announced the Neo, @DroneMood appears to have discovered an early listing for the drone on Walmart.

The listing indicates that the DJI Neo Fly More Combo, which usually includes additional batteries, a charging hub, and a carrying case, will be priced at $329. This pricing is on par with the HoverAir X1 combo kit, which retails for $399.

Currently, information about the DJI Neo is scarce. We’ll provide updates as more details emerge.
