First Look: Huawei Mate 70 Series Back Design Revealed

Huawei introduced the Mate 60 series in China at the close of August last year. Considering this timeline, it’s anticipated that the company would unveil its successor around a similar period. However, a Weibo insider, Digital Chat Station, previously suggested that the launch of the new series might be postponed, potentially happening in the middle to late Q4 of this year.

    Camera Design Updates

In the latest leak, photos of the rear panels for the upcoming devices have surfaced, showing some alterations in the camera design. As observed in the image, the Mate 70 series will feature a comparable camera module. Nonetheless, it looks like the company has adjusted the position of various camera sensors. For instance, there is a noticeable large cutout at the top of the camera module (previously where the flash was located in earlier models). This suggests that one of the camera sensors has been moved to the top of the camera island.

An octagonal camera module can also be seen in the pictures, which is likely indicative of the Mate 70 RS Ultimate. Interestingly, the octagonal camera island in the leaked image has more pronounced angles compared to the Mate 60 RS Ultimate’s octagonal camera island.

    Expected Hardware and Software Features

Regarding hardware, the Huawei Mate 70 series is anticipated to come with a new generation of Kirin chips. The series might incorporate a three-punch hole camera design on the front, along with 3D face recognition technology.

The forthcoming Mate series devices could be the pioneers in featuring the HarmonyOS NEXT operating system. For those unacquainted, HarmonyOS NEXT is expected to be a significant advancement for Huawei in its software ecosystem.

Apple iPhone 16 Case Leak Suggests New Camera Button with Dedicated Cutout

Leaked images posted by Sonny Dickson on social platforms have stirred up anticipation surrounding a possible design alteration for the upcoming iPhone 16. These leaked images display a third-party iPhone 16 Pro case featuring a specific cutout on the right side, precisely where speculations hint at Apple introducing a new “camera button.”

    Speculation on Camera Button Functionality

The rumored camera button is anticipated to provide comprehensive control over video and photo functions. It remains uncertain whether the case manufacturer is working with confirmed details or merely leveraging circulating rumors. Nonetheless, this leak corresponds with earlier reports from MacRumors in the year, disclosing Apple’s intentions to incorporate a dedicated camera button across all iPhone 16 variations.

Potential Ergonomic Advantages of the Capture Button

This anticipated “capture button” is poised to deliver intuitive management over photo and video features. Users could potentially swipe to zoom, tap to focus, and press firmly to commence recording. The button’s design, likely seamlessly integrated into the phone's body, necessitates the case cutout to ensure its operational efficiency.

    Redesign Implications and Regional Considerations

An intriguing implication of this new button placement is its ergonomic advantage for landscape video shooting. The placement of the “capture button” on the top edge could offer a more convenient shutter release experience compared to the current volume button method. The addition of this button might require a slight redesign for US models of the iPhone 16, potentially leading to the relocation of the millimeter wave 5G antenna opening to the bottom left side of the phone, under the volume buttons. This adjustment might not impact models in other regions that have primarily utilized sub-6 GHz bands since the iPhone 12.

With Apple's anticipated launch of the iPhone 16 series in September, these leaks provide a sneak peek into potential design alterations and functionalities. While it is essential to approach this information cautiously, exciting new advancements are undoubtedly on the horizon.
