Barcelona was buzzing today as tech lovers, business leaders, and brands from across the globe gathered at Fira Gran Via for Mobile World Congress 2025. My colleague Will and I explored numerous booths to bring you the finest insights from the event.

    TECNO’s Impressive Showcase

We dedicated a significant amount of time visiting TECNO’s booth (6B11, Hall 6), which focused on the theme “Create the AI Future.” This theme goes beyond just showy technology; it aims to provide AI that is practical for daily users, especially in developing regions.

    Notable Products at MWC 2025

The CAMON 40 Series was the star on the first day, flaunting remarkable camera features. The “One-Tap FlashSnap” function was particularly captivating, allowing users to capture fast-moving subjects with stunning clarity. TECNO also displayed their foldable devices—the PHANTOM V2 Flip 5G and PHANTOM V2 Fold 5G, which made their debut in 2024.

The most fascinating product was TECNO’s inaugural AI Glasses Series. These glasses are not just smart; they aim to integrate smartphone-level photography into eyewear. The Pro version elevates this further with augmented reality display features that suggest a future where our screens may be both omnipresent and absent simultaneously. More information on this will be revealed tomorrow on Day 2, according to the brand.

    Innovations for Work and Leisure

Another highlight from the booth was the MEGABOOK S14 laptop, which is being promoted as the world’s lightest 14-inch laptop boasting a 2.8K OLED display. It skillfully combines powerful AI capabilities within a compact design. The Ella AI Voice Assistant provides more than simple commands—it brings a contextual understanding to conversations.

    Future Concepts on Display

Perhaps the most captivating section of TECNO’s exhibit was their concept area. The SPARK Slim showcased an ultra-sleek profile in an elegant silver finish, while the tri-fold PHANTOM Ultimate 2 featured a tablet-sized screen that can conveniently fit in your pocket. The Tecno Spark Slim is remarkably thin at just 5.75mm, but it doesn’t sacrifice battery life, housing a robust 5200mAh battery. I recall when older super-slim smartphones like the vivo X3 only managed to fit a 2000mAh battery in such a slim design. It seemed illogical back then due to battery costs, but now, a 5.75mm thickness with a 5200mAh battery appears to be a smart move after a decade. The tri-fold device was also a significant highlight, offering a stunning, expansive screen that folds down to pocket size.

  • Tecno Launches Upgraded Universal Tone with Camon 40 Series

Tecno Launches Upgraded Universal Tone with Camon 40 Series

    Key Takeaways

    1. Tecno launched Universal Tone technology in 2023 to enhance skin tone accuracy in photographs for all skin hues.
    2. The updated Universal Tone features a new Multi-Skin Tone color card with 372 patches, up from 268, for improved color representation.
    3. A specialized regional color card for Saudi Arabia was developed, containing 187 distinct skin tone patches.
    4. Enhancements include a refined CCM Skin Tone Calibration Algorithm and an updated Spectrum-Based Automatic White Balance (AWB) Algorithm, improving skin tone precision by over 50%.
    5. The revamped Universal Tone will debut in the upcoming Tecno Camon 40 series at MWC 2025.

Back in 2023, Tecno unveiled an innovative imaging technology known as Universal Tone to enhance the accuracy of skin tones in photographs. This initiative aims to ensure that individuals of all skin hues are depicted in a more authentic way. Since its launch, Tecno has partnered with various universities to refine this technology and even created a web platform that allows users to identify their true skin tone with a single click.

    Tecno’s New Developments

Now, Tecno is taking a big step forward. Today, they have announced an enhanced version of Universal Tone that broadens its skin tone database and improves its Multi-Skin Tone Color Restoration Engine for even more precise color representation.

    What are the Upgrades?

The most recent update to Universal Tone introduces a more sophisticated Multi-Skin Tone color card containing 372 patches, an increase from the previous 268. Essentially, this means that Universal Tone now has a richer dataset to draw from, so when you take a picture, your skin tone should appear more natural and realistic.

Tecno has also tailored a regional color card specifically for Saudi Arabia. This special card was developed in collaboration with the University of Leeds (UK) and Dar Al-Hekma University (Saudi Arabia) in late 2024 and includes 187 distinct Saudi skin tone patches to more accurately reflect the country’s diverse skin tones.

    Enhanced Technology

In addition to the expanded database, Tecno has refined its Multi-Skin Tone Color Restoration Engine with an improved CCM Skin Tone Calibration Algorithm and an updated Spectrum-Based Automatic White Balance (AWB) Algorithm. The new CCM algorithm, which is now trained on the updated Multi-Skin Tone color card dataset, aims to achieve more precise color calibration. Likewise, the AWB Algorithm addresses color shift challenges in monochromatic photo scenarios to enhance exposure and white balance when capturing various skin tones in the same image.

According to Tecno, these enhancements boost skin tone precision by over 50%, making Universal Tone their most advanced model for skin tone aesthetics. The revamped Universal Tone is set to debut in the forthcoming Tecno Camon 40 series, which is expected to launch at MWC 2025.

  • Tecno Camon 40 Series Leaks: New Design and 4G/LTE Options

Tecno Camon 40 Series Leaks: New Design and 4G/LTE Options

Tecno is reportedly developing new smartphones in their Camon series. Unlike the OnePlus 13’s design, these upcoming models will feature three rear cameras positioned vertically. The Camon 30 5G currently starts at INR 22,999 (approximately $269) on Amazon.in.

    Design Inspirations

The anticipated “Camon 40” series is expected to resemble the Samsung Galaxy S24 series in appearance. However, the rear panels of these devices are said to showcase a unique asymmetrical two-toned design, according to the latest Federal Communications Commission (FCC) listings.

    Connectivity Features

The FCC documentation indicates that Tecno is set to introduce two new smartphones named CM5 and CM6. These devices will support Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, NFC, and 4G/LTE bands, but they won’t have 5G capabilities. This suggests that they could be marketed as the standard Camon 40 and the 40 Pro models.

    Battery and Charging Upgrades

It’s a relief that they moved away from copying the flagship OnePlus design, as the battery capacity has seen slight improvements, reaching up to 5,200mAh. Furthermore, these models are expected to feature 45W wired charging, although Tecno does have a faster 70W charging technology available.

The Camon 40 series might also include additional variants like the CM7 and CM8, which could be successors to the 30 Pro 5G and Premier 5G models. However, these particular devices have yet to show up in the FCC’s records.
