OnePlus 13 Launches: Hasselblad Camera & Huge Battery from $799

OnePlus has just announced its newest flagship smartphone after a buzz of teasers across social media. As many expected, the latest launch is the OnePlus 13, moving away from the dual model approach seen in the past. The OnePlus 13 stands out as one of the growing number of devices powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite, which Qualcomm unveiled earlier this month.

    Display Details

To set the OnePlus 13 apart from other devices, it features what OnePlus calls a flagship BOE display, topped with a 2.5D quad-curved glass layer. The device sports a large 6.82-inch screen that offers a sharp 1440p resolution and can achieve up to 4,500 nits of peak brightness. It also has a flexible refresh rate ranging from 1 to 120 Hz. Additionally, the display incorporates an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor for secure biometric access.

    Durability and Battery

The OnePlus 13 comes certified to IP69, an upgrade over the IP65 rating of the OnePlus 12 (curr. $899.99 on Amazon). Furthermore, it boasts a robust 6,000 mAh Silicon Carbon (Si/C) battery, representing an 11% increase in capacity compared to its predecessor. The main camera on the OnePlus 13 is a Sony LYT-808 sensor with optical image stabilization, supported by a 73 mm telephoto lens (3x optical) and a 15 mm ultra-wide-angle lens.

    Availability and Pricing

Currently, the OnePlus 13 is exclusively available in China, where prices start at CNY 4,499 (around $632) for the model with 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage, offered in Blue, Obsidian, and White colors. While OnePlus plans to release the device in other regions eventually, it has yet to announce a timeline. However, for those eager to get their hands on it, the OnePlus 13 can already be imported from retailers like Giztop and TradingShenzhen for $799 and $821.62, respectively. It’s important to note that imported units will come with ColorOS instead of OxygenOS, which means some Android services like Android Auto might not function properly. There may be a way to switch to OxygenOS later on, though.

iQOO 13 Debuts Best BOE 2K Display of the Year

Rumors are circulating that the iQOO 13 will be officially announced in November in China. This release will mark it as one of the initial smartphones to feature the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chipset in the Chinese market. It is anticipated that the Xiaomi 15 and 15 Pro, which are likely to be launched by the end of October, will be the first devices globally to use the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 processor. Unlike the Xiaomi 15 series, which is heavily focused on camera capabilities, the iQOO 13 is expected to be a performance-centric flagship device. A recent leak from tipster Digital Chat Station provides key insights into the iQOO 13’s display specifications. Here’s what we know about the phone’s screen.

Custom Flat BOE Screen for iQOO 13

China-based BOE hosted the Global Innovation Partner Conference 2024, unveiling its upcoming flagship display technology. According to the tipster, the majority of initial phones powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 will likely incorporate BOE displays.

Reports indicate that the Xiaomi 15 and 15 Pro will come with displays supporting 1.5K and 2K resolutions and will feature micro-quad-curved screens. In contrast, the iQOO 13 will sport a custom-made flat display from BOE.

    BOE X2 Display Technology

A recent report mentioned that the OnePlus 13 will include the BOE X2 micro-quad-curved display. Digital Chat Station clarified that the BOE X is a specially customized display line designed for companies like OnePlus, Oppo, and Realme, under the Ouga group. Therefore, the display for the iQOO 13 will not carry the “X” branding.

The flat BOE display on the iQOO 13 is expected to support a 2K resolution and is built using advanced light-emitting materials. Testers claim that it embodies next-generation technology and is deemed the best BOE display developed this year.
