Top 3 Reasons Samsung Galaxy S24 FE Falls Short as Budget Flagship

Samsung is preparing to launch a variety of new products soon, one of which is the much-awaited Galaxy S24 FE. This upcoming budget-friendly flagship smartphone is expected to provide an affordable premium experience, yet it might not meet expectations in certain aspects. Here are the top three reasons why the Galaxy S24 FE could be a letdown.

    Battery & Charging Concerns

    Samsung Galaxy S24 FE

Samsung typically doesn’t equip its flagship phones with large batteries, except for the Ultra series. While the standard for most premium devices is a 5,000mAh battery, the Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24+ were equipped with 4,000mAh and 4,900mAh batteries, respectively. Although the latter is fairly decent, the Galaxy S24 FE might slot in between these two. A leak last month suggested that the 2024 Fan Edition would come with a 4,565mAh battery, slightly larger than its predecessor but still not impressive.

The situation worsens with its charging capabilities. In today’s market, even budget phones can offer faster charging compared to the Galaxy S24 FE. According to the TUV Rheinland database, the Galaxy S24 FE supports only 25W wired fast charging. In contrast, the Galaxy S24+ and Galaxy S24 Ultra support 45W wired fast charging. However, these are still outpaced by flagship models from other brands. The budget flagship from Samsung might also include 9W wireless charging, which is slower than the 15W wireless charging found in the Galaxy S23 FE and even the Galaxy S21 FE.

    Camera: No Major Upgrades?

The Galaxy S23 FE was generally well-received, despite lacking both significant issues and standout features. It was a reliable device that made some improvements over the S21 FE, particularly in design. However, some users felt the camera system wasn’t as strong as Samsung’s true flagship models. While details about the Galaxy S24 FE’s image sensors remain scarce, it appears to have a similar setup to the Galaxy S23 FE, potentially indicating no enhancements in photography capabilities.

The Galaxy S24 FE is rumored to include a 50-megapixel primary camera, a 12-megapixel ultra-wide lens, and an 8-megapixel telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom. For selfies and video calls, it may feature a 10-megapixel front camera.

    Performance: The Exynos 2400

Historically, Samsung’s Galaxy S series has been available in two variants: Snapdragon and Exynos. Depending on the region, the Galaxy S24 might feature either a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC or an Exynos 2400. The Snapdragon variant has consistently outperformed Samsung’s in-house chipset. However, for the Galaxy S24 FE, only an Exynos version might be available.

Reports suggest this version could be an underclocked variant known as the Exynos 2400e. This move may be an effort to reduce costs on cooling or for other reasons, likely resulting in performance that falls short compared to other new affordable flagship phones.
