8BitDo Launches Upgraded 2.4 GHz and Bluetooth Wireless Controller

    Key Takeaways

    1. The Ultimate 2 Wireless Controller is the latest release from 8BitDo, following the Ultimate 2C, Micro, and Zero 2 models.
    2. It features TMR joysticks that offer lower energy consumption and a faster polling rate of 1,000 Hz in both 2.4 GHz and wired modes.
    3. The controller uses an ‘8Speed’ low latency 2.4 GHz connection with a USB Type-C receiver, differing from the common USB Type-A.
    4. It includes 6-axis motion controls and Hall effect triggers that can toggle to non-linear tactile triggers.
    5. The Ultimate 2 is priced at $59.99 and is available in black, purple, and white, with matching charging docks included.

Hardly any time has gone by since 8BitDo updated the Ultimate 2C with fresh color choices. Right after that, the company unveiled the Micro and Zero 2, which are among the tiniest controllers ever made by them. Now, they have released the Ultimate 2 Wireless Controller, or just Ultimate 2 for short.

    Design and Features

As the name implies, the Ultimate 2 takes the place of the original Ultimate. But it also borrows its design elements from the Ultimate 2C, featuring four face buttons along with additional shoulder buttons. However, the Ultimate 2 is not just a simple mix of earlier models.

8BitDo claims that the Ultimate 2 is fitted with TMR joysticks. In theory, these should use less energy than the Hall effect versions while providing a quicker polling rate, which 8BitDo says reaches 1,000 Hz in both 2.4 GHz and wired settings.

    Connectivity and Controls

The Ultimate 2 also offers 8BitDo’s ‘8Speed’ low latency 2.4 GHz connection mode. Interestingly, the included 2.4 GHz receiver uses a USB Type-C connection instead of the USB Type-A that is common with other 8BitDo controllers. Additionally, it comes with 6-axis motion controls and Hall effect triggers. The latter can also be switched to non-linear tactile triggers with a simple toggle.

As of now, you can find the 8BitDo Ultimate 2 available for order on Amazon for $59.99, offered in black, purple, and white color variants, each including matching charging docks. According to listings on Amazon, the black and white versions are expected to begin shipping later this week. For more information, check out 8BitDo’s official website.

  • Anbernic RG P01 Launches with Hall Effect Joysticks Under $15

Anbernic RG P01 Launches with Hall Effect Joysticks Under $15

Anbernic has officially announced the release date for its very first controller, marking it as its second product launch this month following the RG CubeXX. This news comes less than two weeks after the core specifications of the RG P01 were shared by Anbernic. Alongside this, the pricing for the RG P01 has also been revealed.

    Pricing Details

As per RetroHandhelds, the introductory price for Anbernic’s controller will be set at $14.99, which will increase to $17.99 once pre-orders start shipping on November 12. This means that the RG P01 will significantly undercut the 8BitDo Ultimate 2C, which is currently priced at $29.99 on Amazon and offers Bluetooth and wireless capabilities. It’s worth mentioning that the wired version of the Ultimate 2C is available for $19.99, making it $10 cheaper than the wireless model.

    Features of the RG P01

Similar to the Ultimate 2C, the RG P01 is equipped with Hall effect joysticks and triggers. RetroHandhelds’ review indicates that the RG P01 does not experience the cardinal snapping issue found in some recent Anbernic handhelds. Additionally, unlike the Ultimate 2C, the RG P01 features two rear-mounted buttons labeled M1 and M2. Anbernic plans to launch the RG P01 at 10:00 UTC on October 29. The new controller will be available on both AliExpress and Anbernic’s official website, though the links for these platforms are not yet active.

    Availability

Anbernic will be selling the RG P01 through its website and AliExpress, as confirmed by RetroHandhelds. Stay tuned for updates as the launch date approaches!

  • Anbernic’s New Wireless Controller Inspired by 8BitDo Ultimate 2C

Anbernic’s New Wireless Controller Inspired by 8BitDo Ultimate 2C

Anbernic has been quite active this year with its introduction of new products. To summarize, the company has successfully launched a new gaming handheld every month since early 2024, with the latest being the RG406V, which was released last week. Additionally, there are rumors of a more affordable version of the RG Cube being developed, along with a new iteration of the RG35XX SP, currently priced at $89.99 on Amazon.

    New Controllers on the Horizon

Recently, a set of controllers has been added to the list of upcoming Anbernic items. Although Anbernic has not officially confirmed anything yet, images of three controllers featuring the Anbernic brand have been spreading on platforms like Bilibili in China and Reddit. It’s important to note that these seem to represent three color variations rather than separate controller models.

    Design Features

The unnamed controller includes the standard range of buttons, featuring two joysticks and a d-pad laid out similarly to an Xbox controller. However, Anbernic has chosen to use Nintendo-style XYBA buttons, following in the footsteps of 8BitDo. The design of the controller closely resembles that of the 8BitDo Ultimate 2C, which is also available in a special edition variant called Black Myth: Wukong. As of now, details about the launch and pricing of Anbernic’s similar controller are still unknown.
