Sony WH-1000XM6 Gets New Certification Ahead of Launch

Previous rumors suggested that Sony’s next premium headphones, the WH-1000XM6, were on the way. The Walkman Blog has discovered a listing on the FCC website, indicating that the release is approaching. Typically, an FCC certification signifies that a product is nearing its launch date.

Design and Features

From the FCC listing, we get our initial look at the Sony WH-1000XM6. In terms of design, there might be a new hinge and possibly some earcups that could be easier to take off. The headphones will have Bluetooth version 5.3, instead of 5.4 or the latest Bluetooth 6.0.

Bluetooth Specifications

The Walkman Blog suggests that Bluetooth LE Audio might not be included. Likewise, aptX may also be missing due to Sony shifting towards a MediaTek audio chip. These features are highly sought after, and it would be great if Sony at least provided LE Audio support with the WH-1000XM6.

Expected Launch Date

A previous leak indicated that the Sony WH-1000XM6 might launch in the first half of 2025, which means it could debut as early as May 2025, three years after the WH-1000XM5 was released. Currently, there’s no word on the smaller version, the WF-1000XM6, but there are rumors suggesting that both models could be launched at the same time.
