As the October release date for the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 approaches, more information about the processor is emerging. A datasheet leaked recently has already provided some significant insights into the SoC. Now, another leak from reliable source Ice Universe offers details regarding the GPU.
GPU Specifications
The Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 is reported to include the Adreno 830 GPU, currently being tested at a clock speed of 1,250MHz (or 1.25GHz). While this may appear low compared to the 4GHz clock speed of the 8 Gen 4's Oryon CPU, it is essential to understand that GPUs in mobile devices usually operate at lower speeds than CPUs.
For context, the Adreno 750 in the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 runs at 903MHz for the standard version and 1,000MHz for the performance-oriented "for Galaxy" or "Leading" models.
Benchmark Performance
A leaked AnTuTu benchmark for the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 reveals a GPU score of 1,330, which is a substantial improvement over the top score of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, currently at 896,416 points on AnTuTu.
However, it is wise to remain cautious with these figures. The tipster mentions that the 1,250MHz clock speed was achieved with an engineering sample of the 8 Gen 4, and the final SoC version might feature different GPU speeds.
Additional Features
Additionally, the leaked datasheet indicates that the SoC will be produced using a 3nm process, with support for dual-channel package-on-package (PoP) high-speed LPDDR5X SDRAM and a Qualcomm Spectra ISP 8-series image processor.
Connectivity features include 5G, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, and ultra-wideband (UWB) support. In terms of AI and security capabilities, the SoC is expected to have a Low-Power AI (LPAI) subsystem with a dedicated DSP and AI accelerator, allowing for continuous on-device AI processing without affecting battery life.
