Qualcomm has introduced its latest top-tier chipset, the Snapdragon 8 Elite, which significantly enhances battery efficiency and performance when compared to the former Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. Recently, tech YouTuber Dave2D ran multiple benchmark and real-world assessments on two smartphones that incorporate this new chip, producing remarkable findings.
Battery Life Performance
In his tests, Dave2D evaluated the Chinese version of the OnePlus 13, equipped with a 6,000mAh battery, alongside the global ROG Phone 9 Pro, which has a 5,800mAh battery. The testing utilized the PCMark Battery test with the screen brightness set to 250 nits. The results were quite impressive, as the OnePlus 13 lasted for 17 hours and 25 minutes, while the ROG Phone 9 Pro managed 14 hours and 29 minutes. These results highlight a 43% and a 30% increase in battery life, respectively, over their earlier models.
Gaming and Performance
The Snapdragon 8 Elite also boosts gaming capabilities. Dave2D tested both the OnePlus 13 and ROG Phone 9 Pro with Genshin Impact, a game notorious for causing thermal throttling in many high-end devices. Both smartphones showcased better performance than their older versions during gameplay duration and consistent functionality.
Improved Thermal Management
With the Snapdragon 8 Elite's thermal management and efficiency, both devices were able to sustain smoother gameplay and higher frame rates over extended periods. However, it is important to mention that the tests were conducted in Canada, where cooler temperatures might have affected the outcomes, leading to potential variations in hotter climates.
Looking ahead, the Snapdragon 8 Elite appears to be promising. Future flagship smartphones such as the Galaxy S25 Ultra, the Xiaomi 15 series, and even the Realme GT 7 Pro are anticipated to leverage the advanced features and efficiency of this chipset, providing a superior overall experience compared to their predecessors.
