Sigma has revealed their new 28-45mm F1.8 DG DN | Art lens, set to launch in China on June 18th with a price tag of 9,797 yuan. This lens is notable for being the world’s first full-frame F1.8 zoom lens, designed to offer exceptional low-light performance and control over background blur across its zoom range.
Lens Composition and Design
Featuring a constant F1.8 aperture, the Sigma 28-45mm F1.8 DG DN | Art lens is perfect for capturing sharp images in low-light situations and creating beautiful bokeh effects. The internal zoom structure helps maintain the lens's overall length during focusing, ensuring better balance while handling the camera. Additionally, the close focusing distance of 30cm makes it possible to take stunning close-up shots.
Optically, this lens is constructed with 15 groups and 18 elements, including 5 SLDs and 3 aspherical lenses. This configuration minimizes chromatic aberrations and ensures sharp renderings across the frame. To further enhance image quality, Sigma has used nano-porous coating and super multi-layer coating technology to reduce flare and ghosting, particularly in backlit environments.
Autofocus and Manual Control
For quiet and smooth autofocus, the lens employs an HLA high-speed linear motor. Photographers who favor manual focus will find the bidirectional drive focus ring useful for precise control. The lens also features an aperture ring, an infinite aperture switch, and an aperture lock switch to prioritize creative control. Additionally, two customizable AFL buttons allow for specific function assignments based on photographer preferences.
Durability and Additional Features
A locking petal-shaped lens hood is included to minimize stray light and protect image quality. The lens itself is built with a dust-proof and splash-proof construction, enabling photographers to take impressive shots even in challenging weather conditions. The front lens group also includes a water and oil-repellent coating, making it easier to clean and maintain.
