“Rivian Unveils 2nd-Gen R1T & R1S EVs: 1,025hp, 420-Mile Range”

The second-generation Rivian R1T EV pickup truck and the Rivian R1S EV SUV have been announced. These new models feature substantial enhancements over their predecessors, including revamped drive systems. The performance upgrades also incorporate a new user interface and experience software platform, offering more power and a greater range.

Improved Powertrains

Rivian describes the new EVs as thoroughly re-engineered. The R1T and R1S will be available with Rivian’s in-house developed Dual-Motor, Tri-Motor, or Quad-Motor powertrains. The new R1T with a Quad-Motor system boasts 1,025 horsepower and 1,198 lb-ft of torque, allowing it to accelerate from 0-60mph in under 2.5 seconds. These models are equipped with new battery packs that provide a range of 420 miles (676km) on a full charge.

Market Target and Competition

The launch of the new Rivian R1T EV truck and R1S EV SUV is aimed at the robust US market and beyond. In the US, trucks and SUVs constitute a significant portion of new EV sales, with trucks being the top sellers for some time. The second-generation Rivian R1T will face competition from established models like the Ford F-150 series and the RAM 1500 series.

Rivian was the pioneer in releasing an all-electric truck, earning praise for the R1T's innovative features. Following this, Rivian introduced the R1S and continues to evolve its flagship R1 vehicles, ensuring top-notch quality and performance.

Enhanced Features and Pricing

The new models also feature an advanced thermal management system that improves efficiency and comfort. The 22-inch wheels and enhanced aerodynamics contribute to the vehicles' extended range.

Rivian’s new offerings include a sophisticated driver assist system that uses 11 cameras, 5 radar units, and AI predictive features for optimal driver assistance. The Rivian R1T starts at $69,900 in the US, while the Rivian R1S begins at $75,900. Orders for the new models are open now, but it remains uncertain if they will be available outside the US.
