Philips Launches 4K Monitor with Presence Sensor and Thunderbolt 4

Philips has launched the 27B2U6903, a model that has already garnered accolades like the iF Design and RedDot Winner awards. According to the promotional content from the company, the 27B2U6903 is designed as a compact business monitor, unlike the new gaming monitor under the Evnia brand, exemplified by the Evnia 34M2C8600 (currently priced at $679.99 on Amazon). The 27B2U6903 features a 27-inch display, which houses a high-resolution IPS panel, although it is noted for being somewhat slow.

Display Features

This model comes equipped with a 4K (3,840 x 2,160) panel that operates at 60 Hz. The brightness level for the 27B2U6903 is stated to be 350 nits, and it features a matte finish that helps reduce glare. It boasts impressive color coverage, with 96% sRGB and 110% NTSC color space. Additionally, the monitor has a contrast ratio of 1,000:1, a 4 ms GtG response time, and viewing angles of 178º both horizontally and vertically.

Unique Additions

While the panel may not be the most remarkable, Philips has incorporated several additional features to set the 27B2U6903 apart from standard business monitors. Notably, it offers two Thunderbolt 4 ports, which can recharge connected devices with up to 100 W of power or allow for daisy chaining to another monitor. Furthermore, it includes a 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet port and a USB hub that provides four Type-A ports alongside a USB Type-C connection.

PowerSensor 2

Moreover, Philips has integrated a presence sensor, marketed as 'PowerSensor 2'. This feature is designed to automatically wake a connected laptop or PC when someone approaches and to lock the device when the user walks away. However, it is important to note that PowerSensor 2 is compatible only with Windows 11. Presently, the retail price for the 27B2U6903 is £449.99 in the UK and €549 in the Eurozone.
