Philips Hue Unveils Upgraded 8K HDMI Sync Box for Enhanced Lighting

The Philips Hue Play HDMI sync box 8K has officially launched in Europe. This model was leaked earlier this year and is an upgrade from the previous Play HDMI sync box, which only supported 4K resolution. With this device, your smart lights can sync with what you’re watching or playing on your TV, perfectly matching the colors without needing a camera.

Enhancements Over Previous Model

Compared to the earlier Play HDMI sync box, this new version supports 8K at 60Hz and 4K at 120Hz video content. It also maintains compatibility with Dolby Atmos, Dolby Vision, and HDR10+. The previous HDMI 2.0 ports have been upgraded to four HDMI 2.1 ports, allowing you to connect gaming consoles or streaming devices easily. You can connect up to ten smart lights using a Hue Bridge, and control them through the Hue app, voice commands, or even your TV remote. You can adjust settings such as brightness, lighting intensity, and different sync modes.

Limitations to Consider

It’s important to mention that the Play sync box does not work with TV apps for syncing. If you're looking to purchase the Philips Hue Play HDMI sync box 8K, it’s available for £299.99/€349.99 in Europe, either from Philips directly or through its Amazon store. In the United States, the product is priced at $349.99, but it's currently marked as “Temporarily out of stock” on the brand’s official website.

Philips Hue is part of the Smarthome Assistants lineup.
