Persperity Health, a new start-up focused on creating a wearable device aimed at helping women oversee their fertility and menopause, has successfully secured $1 million in pre-seed funding. Their innovative technology relies on non-invasive sweat analysis instead of traditional blood tests to assess hormone levels.
Innovative Technology
The company has developed a unique, patented ring-shaped biosensor that utilizes sweat-sensing technology. This invention is the brainchild of co-founder Dr. Wei Gao and is exclusively licensed from Caltech. Users won’t have to endure intense workouts to gauge hormone levels; instead, they can rely on a painless technique called iontophoresis, which induces sweating on demand.
Hormone Detection
Persperity Health claims that various hormones, including estradiol, progesterone, and luteinizing hormone (LH), can be identified through sweat. The firm highlights three main scenarios where hormone tracking can be especially beneficial: recognizing early signs of hormonal imbalance, monitoring ovulation to improve fertility treatments, and alleviating menopause symptoms.
In their announcement, Persperity Health mentioned that the funding will be utilized to "speed up" the development of their product. On their website, they list investors such as FreeFlow, Wilson Hill, Caltech, Alma Capital, and Merkin Family Office. However, the timeline for the launch of the first consumer product from Persperity Health remains uncertain.
