Onyx Boox P6: Compact E-Reader with Rich Features

The Onyx Boox Palma, which we previously reviewed on Notebookcheck, is set to have a new version. However, this successor misses a key feature that was present in the original Onyx Boox Palma. The new Onyx Boox P6 does not include the 16 MP camera that its forerunner had. Whether this is a drawback really depends on how you plan to use the device. Aside from this change, the display remains unchanged; it still features a 6.13-inch E Ink Carta 1200 display with a resolution of 824 x 1,648, but it does not support color. A front light is included, which can be adjusted not only for brightness but also for color temperature.

Design and Specifications

Measuring 160 x 80 x 8 millimeters, this mobile device is lighter, weighing in at 160 grams. It features a touchscreen and multifunctional controls that can be used for tasks like page turning or scrolling and can be assigned to other functions as well. Inside, the device is powered by a Snapdragon SoC with eight processing cores, complemented by 6GB of RAM. Its internal storage is 128 GB, which can be easily expanded using a microSD card. The device runs on Android 13, and the 3,950 mAh battery supports USB-C for charging and file transfers. Additionally, it includes two onboard speakers.

Pricing and Availability

Boox has not disclosed any pricing details or information about global availability yet. However, the original Onyx Boox Palma can still be found on Amazon.
