Li Jie, the President of OnePlus China, recently shared insights about the forthcoming OnePlus Pad 2 via a post on Weibo, a popular Chinese microblogging platform. He highlighted that the Pad 2 will feature several industry-first innovations. "I was in a meeting with IoT partners. They have created many unique products in many industries," he mentioned, but refrained from disclosing specific details about the product itself.
Storage Configurations and Color Options
Recent rumors suggest that the Pad 2 will be available in four storage variants: 8GB+128GB, 8GB+256GB, 12GB+256GB, and 16GB+512GB. Additionally, it will come in two color choices: space gray and fresh khaki green. The leaks also indicate that the device might be released as soon as this month.
Weighing in at 585 grams, the Pad 2 is slightly heavier than its predecessor, the OnePlus Pad, which was launched in April last year and weighed 552 grams.
Performance and Specifications
The OnePlus Pad 2 has already been spotted on Geekbench with the model number "OP2404," confirming that it will be powered by the latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 flagship chipset. This gives the device a performance edge over its competitors. As hinted by the president, the tablet could feature software optimizations that leverage this raw power. For context, last year's OnePlus Pad was equipped with the 4nm Dimensity 9000, a flagship chipset released in late 2021.
The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 features a Cortex-X4 core clocked at 3.3GHz, five Cortex A720 cores (three clocked at 3.2GHz and two at 3.0 GHz), and two power-efficient Cortex A-520 cores clocked at 2.3GHz. It incorporates the Adreno 750 GPU. In Geekbench tests, it scores over 2000 points in single-core and over 7000 points in multi-core tests, slightly trailing behind the Dimensity 9300.
Display and Battery
Externally, the OnePlus Pad 2 is expected to sport a 12.1″ 3K (3000 x 2120) LCD display, with a pixel density of 304 PPI and a peak brightness of 900 nits. The device is also rumored to include a 9510mAh battery with 67W charging support, identical to its predecessor. Given that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is more powerful yet also based on a 4nm process, it will be interesting to see how the Pad 2's battery life compares to the previous model while introducing some industry-first features.
