NTT Sonority has introduced the nwm Dots and nwm Wired open-ear earphones, which feature active noise leakage suppression. This cutting-edge technology minimizes the sound from the 12 mm dynamic drivers, making sure less music escapes into the environment around the user.
Open Design for Safety
The open design of these earphones enables users to remain aware of their surroundings, making it easier to hear important sounds like emergency alarms or a crying baby. The active phase cancellation technology known as Personalized Sound Zone significantly helps in reducing sound leakage, preventing disturbances to those nearby.
Impressive Specifications
The nwm Dots earphones have a frequency range from 80 Hz to 20 kHz. They incorporate NTT's special voice technology named Magic Focus Voice, which employs beamforming through dual MEMS microphones. This, combined with spectral voice separation, ensures that the wearer’s voice is transmitted clearly even in noisy situations. The Dots connect to devices using Bluetooth 5.3 with multipoint capabilities. With the nwm Connect app, users can modify equalization, update firmware, and tweak other settings. Each earbud pair weighs 0.56 oz. (16 g) and has an IP54-rating for protection against dust and water.
Charging and Battery Life
The accompanying charging case can recharge the Dots four times fully, while the earbuds themselves offer up to eight hours of playtime. A complete charge takes just one hour, and a quick five-minute charge can yield an hour of use. The case takes around two hours to fully charge and measures 3.5 x 2.1 x 1.2 in. (88.7 x 52.1 x 29.6 mm) with a weight of 2.3 oz. (65 g).
Wired Option Available
On the other hand, the nwm Wired earphones feature a frequency range of 100 Hz to 20 kHz. They connect through a 3.5 mm headphone jack with a cable length of 3.9 ft. (1.2 m). This model has an impedance of 16Ω and can handle a maximum input power of 40 mW. Unlike the Dots, the nwm Wired uses a single ECM microphone without spectral voice separation capabilities. This model also weighs 0.56 oz. (16 g) and carries an IPX4-rating for water resistance.
Pricing and Availability
The nwm Dots are priced at 24,200 yen (~$150), while the nwm Wired is available for 4,950 yen (~$30). Both models can be purchased now in Japan, with plans to launch them soon on the nwm store via Amazon US. For those interested in open-ear, over-the-ear headphones with dual drivers, the nwm One can also be found on Amazon US.
