Nothing Phone (2a) Community Edition Launching Oct. 30, Glows

The Nothing Phone (2a) was introduced in March 2024 as a budget-friendly version of the Nothing Phone (2) that came out in 2023. At first, it was up for sale in Black, White, and Milk colors. Later, Nothing revealed a gorgeous Blue version that is only available in India, along with a Special Edition that features a blend of different colors. Now, it seems that another version is launching soon, as the Nothing Phone (2a) Community Edition is set to debut this month.

Community Collaboration

The Nothing Phone (2a) Community Edition comes from a collaboration between Nothing and its community members. When this initiative was first announced in March, Nothing shared that it would be a competition for fans, allowing them to enter in four areas: hardware design, wallpaper design, packaging design, and marketing design. The top entries from each category will be included in the creation of the Nothing Phone (2a) Community Edition.

Design Insights

From the updates on Nothing's project page, we have a glimpse into the design of the Phone (2a) Community Edition. The top choice for hardware design, called Phosphorescence, was created by Kenta Akasaki and Astrid Vanhuyse. This design features a Nothing Phone (2a) (currently listed on Amazon for $379) with a glowing back that illuminates in the dark.

Event Details

The winners for wallpaper design, packaging design, and marketing design are Andres Mateos, Ian Henry Simmonds, and Sonya Palma respectively. Their designs are inspired by the hardware design winner's concept. On October 30th, Nothing will host an event in London to honor the winners, showcase their creations, and officially launch the special edition phone. The number of units for the Nothing Phone (2a) Community Edition is still unknown, but it's expected that they won’t produce many.

Aside from the unique colors, wallpapers, and packaging, the Nothing Phone (2a) Community Edition is expected to have the same features as the other versions. So if you're unable to grab this special edition, you won’t be missing out on much.
