The Stalker series has become a ‘hood classic’ for gamers who dare to explore The Zone. This game offers an immersive post-apocalyptic sandbox experience that, while not the most polished, is distinctly original. Few games, with the Metro franchise being a close contender, have managed to capture the vastness of its desolate landscapes.
Announcement of a New Project
Now, a developer behind the Stalker games is revealing a new project in collaboration with VG Entertainment, which is working on a post-apocalyptic survival shooter taking place in Paris. The unique twist? Nature has reclaimed the city, with trees and vines overtaking its structures. Even more intriguing is the idea that these trees may have a mind of their own.
A Blend of Inspirations
Forest Reigns appears to combine elements of Stalker with a hint of Annihilation for extra flair. The aesthetic seems surprisingly bright, showcasing a variety of exotic plant life that splashes the city with vibrant colors.
These trees aren’t just for decoration, either. Shooting a tree trunk causes it to expand, providing cover from incoming fire. Aiming for its glowing spot results in an explosion that can harm nearby foes. Another feature allows players to shoot plants that can redirect bullets towards targets, or even command roots to ensnare enemies, immobilizing them.
Interactive Environment
According to the game’s Steam page, “It isn’t just part of the environment—it’s a conscious entity with its own desires and intentions.” Players can interact with this vegetation to uncover its secrets, use it to defeat foes, or face the consequences of their actions as it responds to their choices.
The game promises open-ended exploration and distinct factions to align with or oppose. With resources being limited, players will need to strategize, scavenge, and craft to stay alive. As of now, there’s no set release date.
