LG OLED G6: 20% Brighter & Less Reflection; C6 Gets Tandem Panel

Key Takeaways

1. The LG OLED G6 features a new third-generation Alpha 11 4K AI processor, improving graphics performance by 70% and AI optimization speed by 5.6 times.
2. The G6 includes a new anti-reflective coating for deeper blacks and a second-generation RGB tandem OLED panel that is 20% brighter than its predecessor.
3. The “Ambient Filmmaker Mode” adjusts screen settings based on surrounding light, enhancing viewing experiences.
4. The G6 is designed for gamers, offering 4K resolution, a 165 Hz refresh rate, and support for Nvidia G-Sync and AMD FreeSync Premium Pro.
5. The LG OLED C6 introduces two models, with the C6H featuring a tandem OLED panel and higher brightness, while smaller C6 models remain more affordable.

Alongside the super-slim, entirely wireless Wallpaper TV (W6), LG has just introduced the G6 and C6 models. The new LG OLED G6, which replaces the G5, keeps the gallery-style design that allows the TV to be mounted directly onto a wall. However, there are three major upgrades in this version.

Upgraded Performance

To begin with, the TV now uses the third-generation LG Alpha 11 4K AI processor, which boasts a 70% increase in graphics performance and a 5.6 times quicker AI accelerator for much better AI image optimization. Next, a fresh coating has been added to minimize reflections, allowing for deeper blacks especially when there’s bright daylight. Lastly, the second-generation RGB tandem OLED panel is said to be 20% brighter than that of the previous model due to the “Brightness Booster Ultra.”

Innovative Features

Another notable feature is the “Ambient Filmmaker Mode,” which merges the traditional Filmmaker Mode with a light sensor that adjusts the screen according to the surrounding light. With full 4K resolution, a 165 Hz refresh rate, Nvidia G-Sync, and AMD FreeSync Premium Pro, the LG OLED G6 is also designed with gamers in mind. For gaming enthusiasts, LG provides a 330 Hz mode, though at a lower resolution of 1080p, plus integrated GeForce Now game streaming supporting up to 120 fps.

Exciting New Variants

The LG OLED C6 is equally thrilling, now offered in two different models. The pricier LG OLED C6H is the first in the C series to have a tandem OLED panel and is available in either 77-inch or 83-inch sizes, making it 3.9 times brighter than the more budget-friendly LG OLED B6. LG claims that the brightness matches that of last year’s LG OLED G5. However, smaller C6 models, which range from 42 inches to 65 inches, will still come with a more affordable OLED panel. Pricing details for these new models have yet to be announced.
