Leica has been offering cameras in silver and black for decades, and now a third color is being added to the range. “Metal Gray” is a dark gray paint with a rough surface that was developed by Leica itself specifically for its own cameras and lenses, as well as for the associated accessories.
Metal Gray introduction and first model
The first camera to be delivered in Metal Gray is the Leica M11-P. The rangefinder camera with full-frame sensor continues to feature black controls and black leather, with only the upper and lower body plates being coated in the new paint. The surface of the leather has a diamond structure, which gives the camera a more modern look. Like the other colors, the Leica M11-P in Metal Gray is manufactured in Germany, just like the APO-Summicron-M 1:2/50 ASPH. which is offered in a matching color.
Next model and design notes
The Leica Q3 will follow in mid-July with the same finish, and Leica will only change the color of the upper and lower body plate on this model, but not the color of the dials. Although the lens is black, the engraving on the new model is red instead of yellow – that looks stylish, but impairs legibility due to the lower contrast.
D-Lux 8 and color matching
Finally, Leica is also reissuing the D-Lux 8 in Metal Gray. Leica matches the color of the function buttons, but the other controls and the lens are black.
The Leica M11-P in Metal Gray is available immediately for a recommended retail price of $10,400, with the matching Leica APO-Summicron-M 50 mm f/2.0 lens costing an additional $9,990. The Leica Q3 in Metal Gray will follow on July 16, 2026 for $7,350, together with the Leica D-Lux 8 for $1,915.
