Huawei Mate XT tri-foldable phone confirmed for September launch

Reports indicate that Huawei is set to introduce the world's first tri-foldable phone in China this month. Although leaked images of the device have surfaced on Chinese social media, the name remained uncertain until now. The device will officially be called the Huawei Mate XT. This announcement by Yu Richard, CEO of Huawei's Consumer Business Group and Chairman of the Intelligent Automotive Solutions BU, is stirring excitement in tech circles.

Huawei Mate XT: Key Details

Yu Richard describes the Mate XT as Huawei's most groundbreaking product, a realization of science fiction brought to life after five years of dedication and investment. He emphasizes that the device stands as a testament to Huawei's technological prowess, boasting design and functionalities unmatched by competitors.

While specific design and configuration details remain undisclosed, leaks suggest a tri-fold screen featuring inward folding, outward folding, and a dual-hinge design. This innovative setup is expected to unfold into a 10-inch screen, with a centrally located hole-punch camera on the far left. A stylus can transform it into a tablet-like device, enhancing productivity for office tasks.

Design and Specifications

Despite its intricate design, the Mate XT is anticipated to maintain excellent thickness control, measuring approximately 5mm when unfolded and about 15mm when folded. This makes the device sleek and manageable. The rear camera is expected to have a circular, centered module similar to the Mate 50 series, surrounded by Paris studs.

The Huawei Mate XT is likely to be powered by the Kirin 9 series platform, promising high performance and advanced features. Although it is slated for a September release in China, its availability in other markets is still unknown.

Upcoming Launch Event

Huawei will host the Huawei Meet the Extraordinary Brand Ceremony and the Hongmeng Intelligent Driving New Product Launch Conference on September 10 at 14:30. The event is expected to showcase the Mate XT along with other new products, such as the Huawei Nova 13 series, new smartwatches, Zhijie R7, and the Wenjie M9 five-seater version.
