ColorOS 15: Release Date, Supported Devices, New Features

Android 15 is still in its development phase, and even the new Pixel 9 series doesn’t come with it pre-installed. Meanwhile, companies are working on the next significant update for their custom interfaces, such as Oppo’s ColorOS 15. OnePlus devices in China also use ColorOS.

ColorOS 15, which is built on Android 15, is currently under development. Leaks suggest it will introduce a major redesign to both the lock screen and notification panel, along with various new features and enhancements. Additionally, it will incorporate new functionalities from Android 15.

Exciting New Features

The upcoming update promises several exciting changes. But when will it be available, and will your device be compatible? Here’s all you need to know about ColorOS 15.

Release Date for ColorOS 15

Neither Oppo nor OnePlus have officially announced the release date for ColorOS 15. However, it’s expected that the companies will soon begin recruiting beta testers for ColorOS 15.

Last year, Oppo launched ColorOS 14 (based on Android 14) in November, a month after Android 14’s public release. This year, we also anticipate a November release for the new ColorOS version, as Google has confirmed Android 15’s release for October.

Currently, Android 15 beta testing is available from OnePlus and Oppo for a limited number of devices, such as the OnePlus 12, OnePlus Open, Oppo Find N3, and Find X7. If you own any of these models, you can enroll in the beta program to experience Android 15 early.

Anticipated Features in ColorOS 15

Oppo plans to introduce significant design changes in key areas with ColorOS 15. There will also be numerous improvements and new features, alongside those from Android 15.

Revamped Lock Screen

ColorOS 15 is expected to feature a redesigned lock screen with an iOS-like depth effect. Leaked screenshots suggest users can reposition the clock, choose from various clock fonts, and add widgets to the lock screen.

Redesigned Control Center

According to leaked images, the Control Center in ColorOS 15 may also see a redesign, featuring larger Wi-Fi and Bluetooth toggles. The music player is resized and moved to the left.

The new Control Center in ColorOS 15 appears similar to Xiaomi’s HyperOS skin.

New Icons and Wallpapers

Each year, Oppo updates the default icons and adds new wallpapers in ColorOS to enhance user experience. The leaked images show new icons for the Gallery, Settings, and Camera apps.

Enhanced Multitasking

The forthcoming ColorOS version may offer improvements in multitasking. The update might allow users to create shortcuts for their favorite split-screen app pairs—an Android 15 feature that could be integrated.

Theft Detection Lock

Although not specific to ColorOS 15, Android 15 introduces a Theft Detection Lock feature, using Google’s AI to lock your device if it detects it’s been taken from you. This prevents unauthorized access until the correct Google account details are used.

Satellite Connectivity Support

Android 15 “extends platform support for satellite connectivity,” aiding SMS, MMS, and native RCS apps in using satellite networks for messaging.

Not all Android 15 phones will support satellite connectivity, as it requires specific chips and carrier support.

Additional AI Features

Smartphone manufacturers are eager to integrate advanced AI features. While ColorOS 14 already includes some AI functionalities, more are anticipated in ColorOS 15. Details are limited, but Gemini AI integration may be expected as part of Android 15.

App Archiving

An Android 15 feature allows users to uninstall unnecessary apps while retaining user data, similar to offloading apps on iPhones. It ensures no data loss, enabling users to resume where they left off upon reinstalling the app.

Android has app archiving through the Google Play Store, but Android 15 integrates it at the OS level, allowing archiving/restoration of all apps, including those not installed via the Google Play Store.
