Vivo unveiled its latest X Fold lineup in China today, introducing the third generation of this series alongside other new products. The X Fold 3 series comprises both a standard version and a pro variant, with the latter being the more premium offering with top-tier features. While these phones share some similarities in specifications, they also exhibit differences that set them apart. Serving as the successor to last year’s X Fold 2, these devices bring a range of innovative features to the table.

Specifications and Features

Both the Vivo X Fold 3 and X Fold 3 Pro boast identical OLED displays. The external screen measures 6.53 inches with a resolution of 2,480 x 2,200 pixels, while the internal display comes in at 8.03 inches with a resolution of 2,748 x 1,172 pixels. These displays feature LTPO technology with a 120Hz refresh rate and a peak brightness of 4,500 nits. Additionally, the X Fold 3 Pro includes an integrated ultrasonic fingerprint scanner, whereas the standard variant relies on a side-mounted scanner.

Design and Build

In terms of design, the Vivo X Fold 3 series showcases a circular rear camera module. The standard variant stands out as one of the slimmest foldable phones, measuring just 4.65mm when folded and weighing 219 grams, which is lighter than the iPhone 15 Pro Max. Vivo emphasizes the durability of the X Fold 3 series, highlighting a carbon-fiber lightweight hinge and garnering the first Swiss SGS five-star drop-resistant certification due to the robust armor glass used. Furthermore, both the Pro and standard models boast IPX8 and IPX4 water-resistant certifications, respectively.

The Vivo X Fold 3 series is equipped with a triple rear camera setup. Both models feature a 50MP main sensor and a 50MP ultra-wide-angle lens. The standard model includes a 50MP portrait camera, while the X Fold 3 Pro offers a 64MP periscope shooter with 3x optical zoom and a 70mm focal length. Additionally, both models sport 32MP front cameras housed within a centrally-aligned punch-hole cutout on the internal and external displays. The Pro variant exclusively comes with Vivo’s self-developed V3 imaging chip.

Pricing and Variants

The Vivo X Fold 3 Pro is available in 16GB RAM with 512GB and 1TB storage options, priced at CNY 9,999 ($1,385) and CNY 10,999 ($1,523) respectively. On the other hand, the standard X Fold 3 starts at CNY 6,999 ($969) for the base model and goes up to CNY 8,999 ($1,246) for the 16GB + 1TB variant. Both models are offered in Black and White color options, catering to different consumer preferences.
