Steam continuously adds new free games, and while many of these offerings can be quite average, some truly stand out as fun to play. ENA: Dream BBQ appears to be one of those titles, according to player feedback.

    Game Release and Reception

There is, however, a “Supporter Edition Upgrade” priced at $9.99. This upgrade allows players to support the developers while also unlocking exclusive in-game items. Beyond the game’s quality, another factor contributing to its popularity is its publisher.

    4. Retro Handhelds provided early impressions, noting quality control issues with the translucent model compared to the white one.
    5. The RG557 is reported to smoothly run Wii U titles and emulate PlayStation 2 games without slowdowns, thanks to its MediaTek Dimensity 8300 and 12 GB of RAM.

It looks like Anbernic is going to hold off until next week to announce when it will begin selling the RG557 and the price. Recent rumors suggest that the device will be priced around $205, which is a 17% and a $30 increase compared to the RG556 that Anbernic launched last year (currently priced at $229.99 on Amazon).

    Unboxing Video Released

In the meantime, Anbernic has shared a comprehensive unboxing video that lasts over 14 minutes. The video, which is embedded below, showcases the Android 14 software experience by default along with some customization options. Additionally, Anbernic gives a glimpse into the handheld’s internals, including its compact active cooling system.

    Early Impressions from Retro Handhelds

On a different note, Retro Handhelds has uploaded an early impressions video of the RG557, showing it in its two launch colors. The site reports that the translucent version has more quality control issues compared to the white one. Specifically, the L2 and R2 shoulder buttons on the translucent model have differing tensions, unlike its white sibling.

It’s important to highlight that these are pre-production models. However, there have been cases before where early retail units faced the same quality control problems as those reviewed. Regardless, Retro Handhelds noted no significant snapping with either joystick, and the fans do not need to activate when emulating even demanding 3D games. The MediaTek Dimensity 8300 and 12 GB of RAM seem to allow the RG557 to run Wii U titles smoothly. Plus, Retro Handhelds mentions that their units can emulate PlayStation 2 games like God of War II at 3.5 times the native resolution without any noticeable slowdowns. For more information, check out the video below.

    Conclusion

The developments from Anbernic and Retro Handhelds are intriguing, and it will be interesting to see how the RG557 performs once it officially hits the market.

  • Assassin’s Creed Shadows on Nintendo Switch 2: PEGI Rating Leak

Assassin’s Creed Shadows on Nintendo Switch 2: PEGI Rating Leak

    Key Takeaways

    1. Speculation about Assassin’s Creed Shadows possibly being ported to the Switch 2 has increased after it earned a PEGI age rating.
    2. Assassin’s Creed Shadows ranks high on the PEGI website, but details are currently unclear, suggesting potential database updates are needed.
    3. Nash Weedle claimed the game could be a launch title for the Switch 2 in summer 2024, with further leaks indicating Ubisoft plans to release over a dozen titles for the console.
    4. The improved specs of the Switch 2, including a quicker GPU, allow for ports with advanced graphics, attracting interest from developers like Ubisoft.
    5. Assassin’s Creed Shadows is Steam Deck Verified, but players may need to lower settings to achieve satisfactory performance, raising questions about its performance on the Switch 2.

Upgraded Switch 2 specs have opened doors for demanding third-party games. Although Nintendo did not present Assassin’s Creed Shadows during the Direct on April 2nd, there are whispers about a possible port. The game has now earned a PEGI age rating, which has sparked excitement for an official reveal.

    Popular Searches on PEGI

Assassin’s Creed Shadows ranks high on the PEGI website’s popular searches. While it features a Nintendo Switch 2 label on the homepage, details do not appear when you click on the title. This might indicate a mistake in the database or that the site requires more updates. Regardless, speculation about Assassin’s Creed Shadows being a Switch 2 title dates back to early 2024.

    Anticipated Launch Title

Nash Weedle mentioned that Ubisoft’s action RPG would be a launch title for Switch 2 in the summer of 2024. Later, a leak from NatetheHate in early 2025 suggested that Ubisoft was planning to bring over a dozen games to the new console. The release of Assassin’s Creed Shadows faced another setback last year, which explains its absence as a launch title. With Ubisoft’s Star Wars Outlaws set to release on September 4th for the handheld, fans might see an Assassin’s Creed Shadows announcement soon.

    Enhanced Graphics Capabilities

Thanks to a quicker GPU, Nintendo can now accommodate ports featuring advanced graphics as part of the improved Switch 2 specs. On the other hand, Ubisoft is likely eager to maintain the positive momentum generated by Assassin’s Creed Shadows. Even though the company faced financial challenges, the game achieved remarkable sales figures.

While Assassin’s Creed Shadows is Steam Deck Verified, players often need to reduce settings significantly to hit 30 fps. Following Cyberpunk 2077’s demos, which showed some improvements over the Valve handheld, gamers are keen to discover how well it will run on the Switch 2.

  • Fairytale Soulslike Game on Sale for Only $5 – Limited Time Deal

Fairytale Soulslike Game on Sale for Only $5 – Limited Time Deal

    Key Takeaways

    1. Dark Storyline: Tails of Iron features a whimsical yet dark plot, where players control Redgi, a young rat seeking to reclaim his fallen kingdom from a cruel frog army.

    2. Combat Mechanics: The game emphasizes real-time combat with swift and fluid gameplay, allowing players to choose from various weapons without a stamina meter complicating their strategy.

    3. Visuals and Atmosphere: The hand-drawn 2D graphics and voice acting by Doug Cockle enhance the game’s immersive experience, contributing to its positive reception.

    4. Mixed Reviews: While praised for its combat and visuals, the game lacks an easy mode and offers minimal exploration or puzzle-solving elements, which may deter newcomers to the genre.

    5. Sequel Released: A sequel, Tails of Iron 2: Whiskers of Winter, was released on January 28, 2025, introducing new gameplay features and continuing the story in a different setting.

Tails of Iron is a 2D action RPG that draws a lot from Souls-like games. At first sight, the game’s world and its delightful hand-drawn graphics give off a vibe of a fun, family-oriented story. But don’t let that fool you. You take on the role of Redgi, the young successor of a fallen rat kingdom. Although the animal characters may remind you of classic fables or medieval tales, the plot turns much darker, mixing whimsical features with a serious, often bloody storyline that echoes the original Grimm’s fairy tales. The kingdom is under attack by a cruel frog army. After seeing his father killed, Redgi embarks on a dangerous quest to save his brothers, take back his throne, and rid the land of the amphibian menace.

    Combat and Gameplay

Just like expected from a Soulslike game, Tails of Iron focuses heavily on combat. Redgi has to tackle not only swarms of lesser enemies but also fierce boss encounters. The real-time combat requires quick reactions and precise timing. However, due to its 2D viewpoint, the challenge isn’t as severe as in 3D games like Dark Souls or Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. The combat feels fast-paced and smooth, partly because there’s no stamina meter to keep track of. Players can choose from various weapons such as swords, axes, and spears, each with unique advantages and disadvantages. Armor is also crucial, affecting both defense and agility, allowing you to customize your combat approach.

    Reviews and Reception

In a review by the German site Eurogamer, Tails of Iron was commended for its tough yet fair combat mechanics and beautifully crafted 2D visuals, which highlight an impressive attention to detail. The unique story about a conflict between rats and frogs is voiced by Doug Cockle, known for portraying Geralt in The Witcher, contributing to the game’s rich atmosphere. With playtime around 10 to 12 hours for both main and side quests, the review described the experience as compact but fulfilling, providing a rounded adventure without overstaying its welcome.

    Critiques and Feedback

Despite the praise, Eurogamer pointed out a few shortcomings. The lack of an easy mode could make the game intimidating for newcomers to the Soulslike genre. Moreover, Tails of Iron heavily focuses on combat, with little else to offer. There are nearly no puzzles or exploration aspects to break the continuous action. Eurogamer opted not to give a final score. On a broader scale, the game has received favorable feedback. On Steam, more than 10,000 players have reviewed it, with 88% giving it a positive rating. On Metacritic, Tails of Iron has a Metascore of 81 and a User Score of 8.0, showing its good reception overall.

Tails of Iron was created by Odd Bug Studio and published by United Label in September 2021. It typically retails for around $25 on Steam, but it’s currently available at an 80% discount, bringing the price down to just $5 until April 21. If you’re not in a hurry, it might be wise to wait a bit. SteamDB indicates that the game sometimes drops to a 90% discount, so with some patience, you might grab it for even cheaper.

    Sequel Information

By the way – a sequel was just released: Tails of Iron 2: Whiskers of Winter came out on January 28, 2025, and is now offered at a 25% discount for around $19 instead of $25. This time, you play as Arlo, the heir to the Guardian of the Wastelands, whose home has been ravaged by a horde of bats. The game expands on the original with new features like magic, elemental damage, a grappling hook for movement, and the ability to upgrade your fortress. If you liked the first game, you’ll likely find a lot to enjoy in this new installment.

  • Rune Factory FAQ: Some Switch 2 Cartridges Compatible with Switch

Rune Factory FAQ: Some Switch 2 Cartridges Compatible with Switch

    Key Takeaways

    1. Switch 2 Edition games may have compatibility with the original Switch, as seen with Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma.
    2. Players can enjoy enhanced graphics and features on the Switch 2 while still playing Switch 2 Edition games on their existing console.
    3. The design of Switch 2 cartridges includes notches, but some may still work on the original Switch, raising questions about their purpose.
    4. Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma will be available on a 64 GB cartridge, allowing for support across multiple console versions.
    5. There is uncertainty about the overall adaptability of future Switch 2 Edition games, despite the initial expectations.

Just when players thought they had a grip on how Switch 2 Edition games functioned, things got murkier. An FAQ for Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma made a notable statement about the cartridge included. Developer Marvelous disclosed that the Switch 2 Edition cartridge actually has a version for the original Switch. Now, Nintendo enthusiasts are curious whether other Switch 2 games will provide this same benefit.

    Compatibility Confusions

Games that are designed specifically for the Switch 2 might not run on the older model. Nevertheless, Switch 2 Edition games such as Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma could be an exception to this rule. These games are standard Switch titles with extra content and improvements to utilize the better specs of the Switch 2. What is surprising is that the physical cartridges are compatible with the original Switch.

    New Possibilities for Gamers

This new information opens doors for gamers thinking about pre-ordering the Switch 2. With potential shortages in sight, players can get a Switch 2 Edition game and play it on their existing console. Then, if a gamer is lucky enough to get their hands on the new Nintendo system, they can enjoy enhanced graphics. In the case of Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma, there’s also the added benefit of Joy-Con mouse functionality. Additionally, players can share Switch 2 games with friends or family who still own the original Switch.

    Cartridge Design Speculations

As the Switch 2 release date approaches, gamers found out that cartridges made for the console will feature notches. There was speculation that this design would stop the media from functioning on the original Switch. The cartridge for Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma might have a different design, or the notch could serve an alternate purpose.

Marvelous also pointed out that the Switch 2 Edition will be available on a 64 GB cartridge. Previous rumors indicated that publishers could only select between 8 GB and 64 GB options. While the Rune Factory game may not need the full 64 GB, this larger size allows the cartridge to support versions for several consoles.

The FAQ might include a mistake, but at the moment, it seems that some Switch 2 Edition games are turning out to be more adaptable than initially thought.
