Casio Unveils New Desk Clock Inspired by Iconic A158 Watch

Casio is set to launch the DQD-851J-8JF desk clock on October 25, 2024, in Japan. This clock is a tribute to the classic Casio A158 digital wristwatch, a favorite among retro watch lovers. With a price tag of 4,378 yen or $29.50 (including tax), it retains the nostalgic design of the A158 but introduces new features to enhance its usability.

A Look Back at the A158

The A158 wristwatch has been around since the 1980s and became a hit thanks to its stylish, lightweight feel, reasonable pricing, and tough stainless steel build. The watch came equipped with essential functions such as a stopwatch, an alarm, a signal for hourly time updates, and both 12-hour and 24-hour formats. Its simple digital display and enduring battery life made it a go-to choice for those who valued ease and dependability in their timepieces.

New Features of the Desk Clock

In contrast to its wristwatch counterpart, the Casio DQD-851J-8JF desk clock boasts several modern features. It includes Japan-exclusive Wave Ceptor automatic time adjustments, a thermometer, and a hygrometer. Additionally, it features a snooze alarm with adjustable sound levels, an auto calendar, and a soothing amber LED light. The clock measures 102 x 117 x 48 millimeters and weighs 185 grams, powered by two AA batteries that can last for about a year.

Usage Outside Japan

Although the Wave Ceptor function is designed for use in Japan, the clock can still be utilized in other regions, albeit with some Japanese display elements. For context, Wave Ceptor watches sync with radio time signals that are broadcasted by various government time services worldwide.

Pre-orders are currently open on Casio’s official Japanese website.
