Canon Launches 410MP Full-Frame Sensor with 100MP Video Support

As of now, the Sony A7R V (starting at $3,498 on Amazon) remains the top contender with the highest-resolution full-frame sensor available, boasting an impressive 61 megapixels. Meanwhile, Canon has introduced a groundbreaking 410MP CMOS 35mm sensor. This innovative sensor can produce images at an astonishing resolution of 24,592 by 16,704 pixels. It provides twelve times the pixel count of 8K video, enabling users to crop photos without losing high resolution.

Compact Size Advantage

While there are already high-resolution medium format sensors on the market, the 35mm size allows for more compact camera designs. Lenses for 35mm cameras are typically smaller compared to those used in medium format systems. The design of this stacked sensor places the image processing unit right behind the light-sensitive surface, achieving a remarkable readout speed of up to 3,280 megapixels per second. This capability allows for full-resolution video recording at an impressive rate of 8 frames per second.

Enhanced Video Capabilities

Moreover, Canon’s sensor features pixel binning technology, enabling it to capture 100MP videos at 24 frames per second.
