In recent days, a provocative teaser image circulated briefly on social media, suggesting that Oppo is planning an unusually wide “Find W” handset. The poster first appeared on the account of well-known leaker Ice Universe, who then followed up with a disclaimer stating the image was AI-generated and “intended for entertainment purposes only and should not be taken seriously.” The original post was subsequently deleted from his X account, although the image remains visible on Weibo.
A Leak Quickly Walked Back
Despite the playful retraction, the possibility of a wider bar-style phone from Oppo is not being dismissed entirely. Reports still circulating on Weibo and through the account @techinfosocials indicate that a device with these broader proportions could be planned for an early 2027 launch, possibly debuting alongside the Oppo Find X10 Ultra. This has fueled a debate about whether the teaser was purely a jest, or a calculated peek at a genuine hardware experiment.
An Industry Pivot Toward Broader Screens
The underlying idea aligns with a wider shift in foldable and conventional smartphone design. A growing number of manufacturers, including Xiaomi, Oppo, and Honor, are expected to embrace more compact, wider form factors, a trend partially attributed to Apple’s anticipated move with its rumored iPhone Ultra. A display ratio close to 16:10 has so far been reserved mainly for the latest foldable devices, such as the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8. The usually reliable leaker Digital Chat Station recently hinted on Weibo that this preference for a wider canvas could eventually migrate to traditional slab-style phones, making the Find W concept less far-fetched than the deleted post might suggest.
Oppo’s Design Heritage and the Practical Limits
Oppo has already shown a willingness to explore these dimensions. Its 2022 Find N2 featured an 18:9 aspect ratio at a time when Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold4 stretched to an exceptionally tall 23.1:9. Although Oppo later converged toward taller industry standards with subsequent foldables, the brand now appears to be revisiting a roughly 6.3- to 6.4-inch panel with a 16:10 layout. Whether such a format offers pure advantages is open to question; one-handed usability would likely be more constrained for a significant number of users. Crucially, Digital Chat Station has noted there are currently no signs that mass production of a 16:10 bar-style phone is imminent, tempering expectations around an imminent release.
