RedMagic is preparing a successor to its recently released Astra gaming tablet, the company confirmed via its official social media channels this week. The new model, to be called the RedMagic Astra 2, is described only as “coming soon,” and the brand has not yet outlined pricing or regional launch timing in its initial announcement.
A foundation built on a domestic flagship
While RedMagic has kept specifics about the Astra 2 under wraps, the company has indicated that the device will be based on the RedMagic Gaming Tablet 5 Pro, which is scheduled to debut in China on June 30. That tablet’s specifications, already made public, provide a detailed picture of what to expect from the global release.
The Gaming Tablet 5 Pro is built around a 9.06-inch OLED screen that delivers a 185Hz refresh rate and a peak brightness of 1,600 nits. At its core is the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor, the same flagship silicon that powers Lenovo’s Legion Tab Gen 5, positioning the device firmly in the top tier of Android-based gaming hardware. One hardware detail that distinguishes this design is the inclusion of an active water-cooling system, aimed at managing thermals during extended high-performance sessions.
Power and charging refinements
The tablet houses an 8,300 mAh battery, supported by 80W fast charging and a dual USB-C port configuration for flexible power and peripheral connectivity. Buyers will have a choice of two color finishes: black and silver.
The original RedMagic Astra reached international markets in June 2025 with a slightly smaller 8,200 mAh battery, a 9.06-inch display, and a previous-generation Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset. The move to the newer Elite Gen 5 platform, along with the cooling upgrade and a modest battery capacity increase, suggests RedMagic is tightening the update cycle to stay competitive as more manufacturers release dedicated gaming tablets with flagship specifications.
