Over four decades have passed since Motorola introduced the DynaTAC 8000X, the world’s first commercially available mobile phone. Now, an accessory maker has revived its unmistakable silhouette, though not as a handset. The result is a portable power bank designed to blend retro nostalgia with modern utility.

A power bank with an unmistakable silhouette

The Trozk Cellular Power Bank packs a 20,000mAh capacity inside a shell modeled directly after the Motorola DynaTAC 8000X. While its appearance alone is enough to spark conversation, the device goes beyond charging. Trozk has equipped it with two additional capabilities: it functions as both a walkie-talkie and a voice recorder.

Fast charging and multi-port flexibility

Underneath the vintage exterior, the power bank supports up to 165W maximum total output and features USB Power Delivery 3.1, making it capable of powering demanding hardware such as a MacBook Pro, a Steam Deck, or a tablet. Trozk states that the unit houses four EV-grade battery cells and offers three ports in total—two USB-C and one USB-A.

When used individually, each USB-C port can deliver up to 100W, while the USB-A port reaches a maximum of 30W. If both USB-C ports are active, total output caps at 165W. That figure adjusts to 130W when one USB-C port is paired with the USB-A port, and drops to 108W when all three ports are charging devices simultaneously.

Retro communication features

An LED display on the front shows the remaining battery level. Above the screen, there is a speaker, and beneath it sit backlit controls for the walkie-talkie mode. A microphone is positioned at the bottom edge, while a removable antenna sits at the top near the ports. Naturally, using the walkie-talkie functionality requires a second unit.

The Trozk Cellular Power Bank is currently priced at $89 on the manufacturer’s website, reduced from its regular $149. Trozk also offers a broader line of nostalgia-driven accessories, including a MagSafe power bank styled like a floppy disk that includes a microSD card slot for external storage, and a model shaped like a vintage pager that can send messages to another beeper power bank.
