HMD has quietly expanded its feature phone portfolio with the HMD Touch AI, a new model tailored specifically for the Chinese market. At a glance, the device shares its silhouette with the HMD Touch 4G, which debuted in India in October 2025, though the latest release layers in a distinct set of hardware and software touches.
Design and display nods to Nokia’s past
The design language draws heavily from the Nokia Lumia era, according to the company, with a circular rear camera island and a vibrant cyan case anchoring the look. Buyers can further personalise the phone with snap-on back covers sold separately in yellow, blue, and white. The 3.2-inch touchscreen keeps the footprint compact, while a top-mounted physical button can be customised to trigger an SOS alert.
Cameras, battery and connectivity
For basic imaging, the HMD Touch AI carries a 2-megapixel camera on both the front and the back. A 1,950 mAh battery powers the device and charges over USB Type-C, which remains a welcome inclusion in this segment. Connectivity is handled by dual-SIM 4G, Wi-Fi, and hotspot support, keeping the phone firmly in smart feature-phone territory.
Software smarts and mobile payments
Where the device sets itself apart locally is its integration of ByteDance’s Doubao AI model. This enables on-device Chinese-English translation, text-to-image generation, and other AI-assisted features. Mobile payment functionality also arrives in the form of Alipay support, broadening its utility for everyday tasks.
Pricing and availability details are still being firmed up on the specification sheet, but the HMD Touch AI is already up for pre-order in China at CNY 469 (roughly $69.25). Full hardware specifications have not yet been published.
