GameSir has expanded the color options for its Pocket Taco mobile controller with a new Voltage Purple variant. The accessory, which launched earlier this year, departs from the horizontal design of models like the GameSir G8 Plus by embracing a vertical orientation that essentially transforms a smartphone into a compact, handheld gaming device.
A translucent look inspired by retro hardware
The new Voltage Purple edition features a translucent shell reminiscent of classic handhelds and home consoles, paired with mostly black face buttons. The Start and Select keys remain purple accents. This differs from the limited-edition Atomic Purple version released exclusively through Kickstarter, which also had a translucent body but used purple across all its buttons.
Pricing is set at $34.99 for the Voltage Purple model through GameSir’s own site and major online retailers. The original retro gray colorway, meanwhile, is currently available for $29.99 directly from the manufacturer. Specifications and features remain identical across all color choices.
Core features and portable design
The Pocket Taco uses a Bluetooth connection and draws power from a 600mAh battery rated for hours of play on a single charge. It relies on cushioned membrane controls for the D-pad and ABXY buttons, along with in-line triggers, shoulder bumpers, and silicone pads to help secure the phone without scratches. Other practical touches include automatic power-on when opened and shut-off when closed, a keyboard mode, and button remapping through the GameSir app. A cutout at the bottom allows a charging cable to pass through during use. The package ships with a travel case, a charging cable, and a lanyard.
A waiting game in the vertical controller space
The updated color arrives as the broader market for vertical mobile controllers continues to develop. The 8BitDo FlipPad, a USB-C model first shown at CES 2026, remains targeted for a summer release, leaving GameSir’s Pocket Taco among the more readily available options for players seeking this form factor.
