Taiwan’s Tern has introduced its next-gen GSD cargo electric bicycle to the markets in Europe and North America. The new GSD model features important enhancements compared to its predecessor, including better performance, a redesigned frame that allows for a greater load capacity, an upgraded braking system, and enhanced safety features.

Frame and Weight

Focusing on the frame, the latest GSD electric cargo bike is made from a sturdy 6061 aluminum frame that uses larger-diameter hydroformed tubing. This construction allows the cargo e-bike to tip the scales at only 34.95 kg (77.1 lbs) while being able to support a maximum load of 210 kg (463 lbs), which covers an adult rider along with up to two children or cargo. The entire structure of the e-bike, which includes the frame, fork, rear rack, kickstand, and braking components, meets the rigorous German DIN 79040 safety standards.

Motor and Battery

The GSD cargo e-bike features a Bosch Cargo line mid-drive motor that offers 85 Nm of torque and provides 400% pedal assistance, enabling a maximum speed of 25 kph (15.5 mph). It comes with a 500 Wh Bosch dual battery, which allows for a range of up to 101 km (63 miles) on a single charge. The bike is fitted with 20-inch wheels and has Magura hydraulic disc brakes for reliable stopping power. A color display on the handlebars gives crucial information about the battery level, active mode, and other essential details.

Additional Features

Among other features, the bike supports vertical parking, includes Bosch ABS braking, GPS tracking, eBike Lock, and an alarm system, which add extra security when securing the GSD. Its foldable design also makes it more convenient to store in limited spaces. When folded, the R14 and S10 models measure 72.8 x 18.1 x 34.6 inches (1850 x 460 x 880 mm), while the P00 and P10 models have dimensions of 71.7 x 18.1 x 34.3 inches (1820 x 460 x 870 mm).

The third-generation GSD electric cargo bike is priced starting at $4,999 (€5,399/£4,700) and will be available for purchase starting May 2025 in Europe and North America through Tern Bicycles’ official website.
