The brand new Thypoch Voyager 24 – 50 mm f/2.8 competes directly with the Sony FE 24 – 50 mm f/2.8 G, which currently costs $1,198. The lens from Thypoch is considerably cheaper, but with a length of 9.2 centimetres and a weight of 432 grams, it is similarly compact and also supports autofocus.
Overview
Despite the lower price, Thypoch relies on a very complex design with 16 lenses in 13 groups, including several lenses with aspherical surfaces. As the manufacturer’s MTF curves show, the lens renders very sharp photos in the center of the image even at wide open aperture, but the resolution drops off visibly at the edges of the image – this is quite common for a compact and fast zoom lens. The full-frame lens also makes hardly any compromises in terms of design.
Optics and quality
The body is IP53-certified and therefore protected against rain. Thanks to an internal zoom, the length of the lens does not change when zooming. A 67 millimeter thread allows the use of filters. A minimum focus distance of 0.3 meters enables a maximum magnification of 0.21. A USB-C connection on the mount allows firmware updates to be installed. A slider allows you to switch between autofocus and manual focus at any time.
