Leica has revealed a new collaboration with Capture One, the maker of one of the most popular photo editing applications available. Although Capture One Pro has been able to handle images from nearly all digital Leica cameras in the past, this partnership aims to enhance the effectiveness and reliability of tethered shooting.

    Enhanced Tethering Experience

Leica has characterized this new workflow as “fast and highly reliable” for tethering. When a compatible Leica camera is linked to a computer with Capture One, the photos taken can be sent instantly, and the camera can also be controlled remotely from the computer. Users can adjust shooting settings directly within Capture One. This means that images can be edited right away, discussed with clients, and seen on a larger, more color-accurate screen. Since Capture One is also available on iPad, this capability extends to mobile use too.

    Compatibility Concerns

According to the compatibility database from Capture One, Leica falls behind many other brands regarding tethering options. Currently, none of their cameras support wireless tethering. Only the Leica SL3, SL3-S, M-EV1, M11-P, and Q3 can show a live view image in Capture One. The inconsistency is highlighted by the fact that the Leica Q3 43, Leica M11, and Leica M11 Monochrom do not allow Live View tethering, even though they share identical electronics with other models that do.

    Promotional Offer for Users

With this partnership, customers can access Capture One Pro for free for three months. To utilize this offer, users need to sign up in the Leica Members Area, register a camera that’s eligible for the promotion, and subscribe to the newsletter. Typically, Capture One Pro is priced at $17 per month, while the Capture One All-in-One package, which includes iPhone and iPad apps, costs $34 per month.
