Royal Enfield, a prominent name in India’s motorcycle scene, is taking a daring step with the introduction of its electric bike. Their partnership with Qualcomm brings in state-of-the-art technology, including the Snapdragon QWM2290 SoC and the Car-to-Cloud platform, marking a notable evolution for the brand.

For those who might not know, this chipset was specifically designed for motorcycles, and it powers the control unit of the Flying Flea. It operates on a custom-built OS, overseeing every element of the bike, including performance and rider interaction. All of this information is conveniently shown on a round TFT display.

    Advanced Connectivity Features

Moreover, the Snapdragon Car-to-Cloud Platform enables the Flying Flea to stay connected via 4G, Bluetooth, and WiFi. This feature ensures that the bike maintains constant communication while you ride. There’s also a special Voice Assistant button to make full use of this connectivity. Additionally, one of the innovative tech features includes the “Phone as a Key” function, allowing riders to unlock and start their motorcycles with their smartphones.

CES 2025: Qualcomm Powers Royal Enfield Electric Motorcycles

Royal Enfield has officially announced that its forthcoming Flying Flea e-motorcycle will feature a “true round” instrument cluster utilizing TFT display technology. This cutting-edge display will be driven by the latest Qualcomm silicon, marking an exciting debut for the motorcycle.

    New Snapdragon SoC for Motorcycles

The Snapdragon QWM2290 is a new system-on-chip (SoC) designed specifically for two-wheeled vehicles, including next-generation electric motorcycles. This chip is expected to provide features like Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and 4G/LTE connectivity for these vehicles and can operate a custom branded operating system, which will be utilized in the Flying Flea upon its release.

    Advanced Features and Connectivity

In addition to standard connectivity, the QWM2290 offers advanced navigation and diagnostic capabilities. A voice assistant can also be integrated into the motorcycle, enhancing user experience. It additionally supports smart security measures, allowing users to use their smartphones as digital keys for the vehicle.

Moreover, this new chipset enables innovative vehicular connectivity options, such as the Snapdragon Car-to-Cloud Platform. This was introduced during CES 2025, alongside other Qualcomm Automotive innovations like the Snapdragon Digital Chassis solution, which will be featured in the upcoming Leapmotor B10 and Mahindra First Electric Origin SUVs. Advanced driver assistance systems and Digital Cockpit technologies were also showcased in collaboration with Hyundai.

Royal Enfield Launches Flying Flea EV: Retro Electric Motorcycles

After numerous leaks and a good amount of teasing, Royal Enfield has at last launched its Flying Flea electric motorcycle sub-brand. The official announcement was made at EICMA 2024. The name “Flying Flea” comes from the light and small motorcycles that were often air-dropped into combat zones during World War II, hinting at what the new electric motorcycle line could bring.

    New Models on the Horizon

Royal Enfield has stated that Flying Flea will introduce two electric motorcycles, with the first being a cruiser-style model dubbed the FF.C6. The second model, expected to be released after the FF.C6 in 2026, is named the FF.S6. Just like Royal Enfield’s internal combustion engine bikes, both the C6 and S6 are likely to be built on the same mid-drive motor and belt-driven system. From the images released, featuring slim tires and compact battery and motor units, it might be wise for electric vehicle enthusiasts to temper their expectations—these bikes aren’t set to be high-powered street racers, even with Royal Enfield’s claims of highway-capable speeds and cruise control.

    A Different Approach

The Flying Flea motorcycles appear to differ from the usual modern Royal Enfield models in terms of weight and agility. The C6 will feature a forged aluminum frame along with a magnesium battery case. In terms of modern technology, the C6 will include wireless smartphone charging and a keyless start system that connects to smartphones. As is common with many recent electric vehicles, the Flying Flea motorcycles will also support over-the-air software updates.

    Anticipation for the Future

Electric motorcycles from Royal Enfield have been hinted at for a long time, with the company even showcasing an all-electric version of its Himalayan adventure bike during last year’s EICMA. So, it wouldn’t be surprising to see a Flying Flea take on a similar adventure or sport-touring style. For now, though, the Indian electric motorcycle brand seems to be leaning towards the modern classic design and ergonomics it is renowned for.
