Philips Hue SpatialAware: Smart Lamp Position Detection for Lighting

    Key Takeaways

    1. Philips Hue users with a Hue Bridge Pro will get a new feature called Hue SpatialAware this spring.
    2. Hue SpatialAware creates specific lighting scenes by considering the position of individual lamps for more realistic effects.
    3. The feature enhances natural scenes, like mimicking sunsets, by scanning the room with a smartphone camera to identify lamp locations.
    4. Once positions are captured, they can be used for compatible scenes in the Philips Hue app, available for about half of the scenes at launch.
    5. Philips Hue Secure will support Apple Home by March 2026, integrating Hue Secure devices into Apple’s smart home app.

Philips Hue users who have a Hue Bridge Pro will be getting a new feature this spring called Hue SpatialAware. This feature is made to smartly create specific lighting scenes in a better way. SpatialAware takes into account the position of individual lamps, making sure that the lighting appears as it should.

    Enhancing Natural Scenes

This will particularly enhance scenes that draw inspiration from nature, like mimicking a sunset where red hues should only be visible from one side and in the lower half of the room, while the rest should be filled with a sky blue shade. To make this effective, the room needs to be scanned using a smartphone camera, which will automatically identify the location of each lamp or light source in the space.

    Saving Room Configurations

Once this position is captured, it can be used for all scenes that are compatible with Philips Hue SpatialAware. Signify states that this feature will be available for about half of the scenes in the app when it debuts in the spring. Besides SpatialAware, Signify is rolling out several other updates for the Hue system, including the option to transfer multiple Hue Bridges to a Hue Bridge Pro. This transfer can happen even after the initial setup, as long as the Hue Bridge Pro’s capacity isn’t exceeded.

    Upcoming Support for Apple Home

Moreover, Philips Hue Secure will gain support for Apple Home by the end of March 2026, allowing Hue Secure cameras, video doorbells, and contact sensors to be integrated into Apple’s smart home application. In the same first quarter, automations will be shown directly in their respective rooms going forward.
