    2. Game Director Mikael Eriksson acknowledged the issues and the community’s feedback, stating it is warranted.
    3. The team at Arrowhead is prioritizing game stability over upcoming content updates to address these performance issues.
    4. Not all problems are the same; minor bugs can be fixed quickly, but significant performance improvements will take more time.
    5. The developers are committed to resolving issues to prevent future complications and improve overall game stability.

Helldivers 2 might be one of the most talked-about games currently, but it isn’t without its challenges. Since its launch, players have reported various performance problems on all platforms. The recent major update seems to have introduced even more complications, and Game Director Mikael Eriksson has shared an update on how the team is addressing these concerns.

    Update on Performance Issues

Eriksson mentioned that the last major update, titled “Into the Unjust,” resulted in more issues than they anticipated, particularly regarding game performance on different platforms. These complications have impacted many players, and the gaming community has been vocal about their experiences online.

“Following the last significant update, we’ve seen more issues than we were comfortable with. Players noticed it, we noticed it, and I would say that the feedback we’ve received is very warranted,” he stated.

    Acknowledging Player Feedback

Eriksson recognized that the feedback from gamers is entirely reasonable. He acknowledged that the team is aware of the complaints and concurs that the game’s stability is not where they desire it to be. Consequently, Arrowhead has chosen to postpone some upcoming content updates to prioritize enhancing the game’s stability first.

“What I can tell you is that we’re taking this matter very seriously and are now placing a greater emphasis on resolving these issues to ensure that this doesn’t happen again.” He added, “We have decided to delay some of our content and future updates a bit while we tackle these matters to ensure the game can reach a more stable condition.”

    Different Types of Issues

He explained that not all problems are identical. Some issues, like minor bugs and glitches, can be resolved quickly with small patches. However, significant performance enhancements, such as improving frame rates on various consoles and boosting server stability, will require more time to implement.

  • Arrowhead: Helldivers 2’s Storage Issues Due to HDD Support

Arrowhead: Helldivers 2’s Storage Issues Due to HDD Support

    Key Takeaways

    1. Helldivers 2’s PC installation size has reached 150 GB, significantly larger than the 50 GB console versions.
    2. The large file size is due to duplicated data to improve loading times for older mechanical HDDs, not unnecessary bloat.
    3. Arrowhead Game Studios is committed to supporting both HDD and SSD users, creating challenges in file size management.
    4. The game maintains a solid player base of 50,000 to 60,000 daily players on Steam despite the growing storage issues.
    5. Arrowhead plans to remove unused assets in future patches, but new content updates may continue to increase the overall file size.

While Helldivers 2 is still leading the multiplayer co-op shooter arena, it is encountering a significant storage dilemma due to the game’s ever-increasing size with updates. As of October 2025, the installation size on PC has ballooned to 150 GB, nearly three times larger than its console versions, which sit around 50 GB.

    Storage Choices Explained

The difference in storage requirements isn’t due to 4K textures or unnecessary bloat, but rather a deliberate decision by Arrowhead Game Studios to ensure compatibility with older systems, particularly for gamers using mechanical hard drives (HDDs), which are still part of the minimum system specs for the game.

To clarify the Helldivers 2 storage issue, Arrowhead posted an honest message on the official Helldivers 2 subreddit. The deputy technical director explained, “This is mainly due to duplicated data, necessary for improving loading times on older storage like mechanical HDDs.”

    Technical Reasons Behind Duplication

Having duplicate textures and models stored on the drive helps to reduce seek times on HDDs, where random access can significantly slow down gameplay. Conversely, SSDs can access data more quickly, regardless of its location, which makes this duplication unnecessary. This explains why the console versions of Helldivers 2 are much smaller in size.

Helldivers 2 still boasts an impressive daily average of 50,000 to 60,000 players on Steam. While this is a bit less than the initial launch numbers, it’s still a solid figure. However, the growing file size presents a challenge for Arrowhead, who must maintain support for HDD users while also accommodating players with newer SSDs.

    Ongoing Content Updates

Even with these challenges, Arrowhead is committed to releasing content updates, which bring new biomes, weapons, and different Terminid and Automaton types to the game. These duplications have transformed what was once a slim 36 GB at launch into a massive file size, leading to complaints from the Helldivers 2 Steam community about storage issues.

Currently, Arrowhead has drawn a line in the sand, stating, “We can’t remove all duplication without making loading times for mechanical HDDs ten times slower, and we consider this unacceptable.”

In the meantime, Arrowhead has pledged to remove unused assets for immediate improvements in a future patch, but it is anticipated that any new content added will gradually negate those fixes, potentially creating ongoing headaches for gamers who have limited storage capacity, especially in such a busy release year like 2025.

  • Helldivers 2 Crashes: Arrowhead Addresses Performance and Stability Issues

Helldivers 2 Crashes: Arrowhead Addresses Performance and Stability Issues

    Key Takeaways

    1. Arrowhead Game Studios is addressing performance challenges in Helldivers 2, acknowledging player frustrations with crashes, freezes, and glitches since its February 2024 launch.

    2. The game’s Steam reviews have declined from Very Positive to Mostly Positive, with a current score of 76.65% and over 243,703 negative reviews related to performance issues.

    3. A short-term update is planned for mid-October to provide crash fixes, audio issue resolutions, and minor performance enhancements.

    4. Arrowhead recognizes that larger performance issues will take more time to fix, emphasizing that quick solutions are not feasible for these complex problems.

    5. Despite current challenges, Helldivers 2 remains popular among live-service extraction shooters, and Arrowhead has a history of responding to player feedback, suggesting potential improvements in the future.

Helldivers 2’s developer, Arrowhead Game Studios, is currently tackling the game’s increasing performance challenges as player frustration grows over its state. The studio acknowledged that recent updates have not effectively resolved issues like crashes, freezes, and various glitches that have affected gameplay since its launch in February 2024.

    Community Feedback

On September 24, 2025, the studio’s community manager, Baskinator, posted a thorough message on Helldivers 2’s X account and Discord server. In this message, they stated:

“We understand that many of you are facing problems, such as performance drops, stability issues, freezes, and frustrating audio bugs.

We’ve been monitoring the responses on Discord, Reddit, and our internal dashboards. Your feedback has been loud, clear, and you’re correct to expect better from us. We also acknowledge that our recent updates have not met your expectations, and our lack of communication hasn’t helped matters. We take full responsibility for that.”

    Declining Reviews

This announcement comes as the game’s Steam reviews have dropped from Very Positive to Mostly Positive, holding a score of 76.65%, with a total of 243,703 negative reviews. Many players have reported stutters that render the game unplayable on PC.

To tackle these issues, Arrowhead has laid out a short-term plan that begins with an update in mid-October. This update is intended to provide noticeable improvements, including vital crash fixes, solutions to audio issues like “Primary weapon/Side-arm audio cutting out during missions,” and some minor performance enhancements.

    Future Plans

Arrowhead emphasizes that this patch is just a starting point, saying, “In the short term, we believe the above will provide a noticeable improvement, and we will continue to address the major issues you have raised.”

However, the studio noted that more significant technical issues will require additional time to fix. They commented:

“For larger performance-related problems, we can’t just wave a magic wand for a quick fix, and a 60-day patch won’t solve everything (it would be more like putting duct tape on where we need to solder); therefore, we are developing a more extensive plan to tackle these larger concerns.”

Even with these challenges, Helldivers 2 remains one of the leading live-service extraction shooters, especially after its launch on Xbox this year. Arrowhead has a solid history of paying attention to player feedback. Thus, this current rough period might just set the stage for smoother gaming experiences ahead.

    No Sequel in Sight

A player inquired on the official Discord server of the game about whether Helldivers 3 would be a logical next step following Helldivers 2. Shams Jorjani, the CEO of Arrowhead Game Studios, responded by stating that the team is not considering a sequel at this time. His focus remains solely on Helldivers 2, and he likened his vision for the game to that of RuneScape, a well-established MMO that has continued to evolve over the years.

Jorjani mentioned, “we have no plans for hd3 – just hd2 for as long as it can go. think runescape.”

    Aiming for Longevity

He elaborated that both he and the directors aspire for Helldivers 2 to become a “forever game,” which means they prefer to enhance it over time instead of diverting their attention to a sequel. Nonetheless, Jorjani acknowledged that there’s still quite a bit of work ahead if they wish to realize their ambitions.

“Myself and the directors agree we would love this to be a forever game.” He added, “Assuming we get a grip on the performance and dev practices we can keep expanding it for a long time. PlayStation is super supportive.”

    Ongoing Challenges

Since the launch of the game, players have voiced concerns about performance problems, particularly on PC. Although the developers have rolled out multiple updates to address these issues, the game still has room for improvement. Nevertheless, it’s encouraging to see that the Helldivers 2 team is dedicated to its ongoing development and aims to sustain it for many years to come.

    2. Players have requested customizable spaceships, expanding beyond current character and weapon options.
    3. A leak revealed potential ship customization options in the game files, including color and texture changes.
    4. There is caution regarding these features, as they may have been removed or delayed by the developers.
    5. Official confirmation from Arrowhead Game Studios is still pending, but work on these updates appears to be in progress.

Helldivers 2 might be getting new customization features soon, much to the delight of its players. A recent leak suggests that fans of the game will be pleased with these upcoming changes.

    Customization Requests

Since the game’s release, many players have expressed a desire for customizable spaceships, similar to what is offered in other games. At present, customization is mainly focused on characters and weapons, but it looks like the Super Destroyer might be next in line for some upgrades.

    Discovery of New Features

A user named Iron_S1ghts shared a post on X, revealing that ship customization options were found within the game files. These features are said to include options to change the primary and secondary colors of the ship’s exterior and interior, as well as the banner. Additionally, there’s a mention of being able to customize the texture.

    Caution Needed

However, there’s a caveat; Iron_S1ghts warns that these files may have been removed, which could be why these features haven’t been rolled out yet. It’s also possible that Arrowhead Game Studios is holding back these additions to introduce fresh content for Helldivers 2 in the near future. According to Iron_S1ghts, there is a wealth of customization options for spaceships, weapons, and characters waiting to be explored.

We might see these options in upcoming updates. Although the developers have yet to make an official statement, it appears they are actively working on it.

  • Helldivers 2 Into The Unjust Update Expands PC Size to 140GB

Helldivers 2 Into The Unjust Update Expands PC Size to 140GB

    Key Takeaways

    1. Increasing File Size: Helldivers 2’s file size has grown to over 140GB on PC after the “Into The Unjust” update, causing frustration among players.

    2. Community Backlash: Players are expressing their anger on platforms like Reddit and Steam, noting performance issues and bugs, while console versions remain smaller and more stable.

    3. Developer Acknowledgment: Arrowhead Game Studios’ CEO has recognized the issues and stated that they are prioritizing the concerns but have no specific timeline for fixes.

    4. Technical Issues: The file size increase is attributed to duplicate assets in the PC version, with players citing that technical challenges have not been adequately addressed in updates.

    5. Ongoing Success: Despite the criticisms, Helldivers 2 remains popular, achieving nearly one million sales within the first six days on Xbox Series S|X and maintaining a high player count.

Helldivers 2 players have been feeling more and more annoyed in recent days due to the increasing size of the game on PC. After the “Into The Unjust” update, the game’s file size has now gone over 140GB on PC.

    Community Reactions

Fans have expressed their anger on platforms like Reddit and Steam, noting that the latest patch is a big reason for the growing file size. They pointed out that while the PC version is over 140GB, the console versions are much smaller.

In addition to the file size, players are also facing worse performance, new bugs, and stability issues. This has created a split among the fanbase. Some players are calling the storage requirements and the increasing bugs “beyond ridiculous,” whereas console users, like those on PlayStation and Xbox, are still having fun with the game.

    Developer Response

In light of these concerns, Arrowhead Game Studios’ CEO Shams Jorjani has responded to the various problems affecting the game after the recent update. On the Helldivers 2 Official Discord server, he acknowledged the issues when asked about the game’s file size, stating, “We have escalated the priority of this. But I can’t tell you when it will be addressed.”

Arrowhead Game Studios is known for quickly addressing community feedback. Still, there is no specific timeline for when the file size will be dealt with. Naturally, the performance issues and bugs will be fixed in future patches.

    File Size Growth

For context, Helldivers 2 originally launched with a file size of 25GB. After updates, it has grown to just over 35GB on PS5 and around 36GB on Xbox Series S|X. Players believe that the increase in file size is due to duplicate assets in the PC version of Helldivers 2.

As per the players, unique assets in the game amount to about 30.39GB, but certain files like a 2K normal map for rocky terrain are duplicated up to 128 times, taking an extra 2GB of space. Jorjani mentioned that the “technical debt is crippling” and that the studio hasn’t met the goals they set with the latest update.

    Continued Success

Despite the troubles, Helldivers 2 continues to be a huge success, showing its importance as it moves into 2025. After its release on the Xbox Series S|X on August 26, 2025, the game quickly became the top paid title on the platform, racking up nearly one million sales in just the first six days and boasting a concurrent player count of 500,000 active Helldivers.

    2. The game sold 926,000 units on Xbox in its first six days, surpassing its PlayStation sales of 633,000 copies by nearly 50%.
    3. Helldivers 2 topped Xbox’s paid games list, with the Standard Edition at number one and the Super Citizen Edition at number three.
    4. The game achieved a peak of 500,690 concurrent players across all platforms, with Steam recording 167,795 concurrent players.
    5. Collaborations, like the Helldivers 2 x Halo: ODST Legendary Warbond, contributed to its success, with analysts projecting total sales of over 18 million copies across all platforms.

Arrowhead Game Studio’s Helldivers 2 has made its debut on Xbox, breaking new ground as the first PlayStation exclusive to launch on Microsoft’s console. In a surprising development, this title has actually outsold its initial PlayStation release, as reported by an analytics firm that monitored sales in the first six days.

    Impressive Sales Figures

The Alinea Analytics Insight Newsletter recently revealed that Helldivers 2 sold 926,000 units on Xbox in the first six days after its launch on August 26, 2025. This figure surpasses the 633,000 copies sold on PlayStation 5 following its release on February 8, 2024, marking an astonishing increase of nearly 50% in sales on the Xbox platform.

    A Historic Launch

This achievement is particularly noteworthy, especially since it comes a year and a half after the game first hit PS5 and PC. The Xbox release signifies a pivotal moment in the gaming industry, with PlayStation and Xbox now exchanging first-party titles. For comparison, Gears of War: Reloaded also launched on PlayStation but only managed to sell 259,000 copies in the same timeframe, highlighting Helldivers 2’s superior performance.

    Dominating the Charts

Helldivers 2 quickly ascended to the top of Xbox’s paid games list, with the Standard Edition clinching the number one position and the Super Citizen Edition taking third place, right next to popular games like NBA 2K26 and EA Sports Madden NFL 26.

On top of that, the game achieved an impressive peak of 500,690 concurrent players across all platforms after its Xbox release, with Steam recording 167,795 concurrent players — the highest in the game’s history.

    Unique Collaborations Boost Success

A significant factor contributing to the game’s success on Xbox is the Helldivers 2 x Halo: ODST Legendary Warbond, which was introduced alongside the Xbox launch. Arrowhead CEO Johan Pilestedt acknowledged Sony’s crucial role in the game’s port, stating that they should “send their thanks to Sony since the port was ‘all PlayStation.’”

Helldivers 2 has proven to be a powerhouse in the gaming sphere since its launch. Analysts are projecting that the game has sold over 18 million copies, with 12 million on PC, 5 million on PS5, and nearly 1 million on Xbox.

In its first 12 weeks of availability on both PS5 and PC, the game sold an enormous 12 million copies, making it PlayStation’s fastest-selling game ever, even outpacing the record set by God of War: Ragnarok.

  • Helldivers 2 Surpasses 500,000 Players After Xbox Release

Helldivers 2 Surpasses 500,000 Players After Xbox Release

    Key Takeaways

    1. Helldivers 2 reached a record player count of 500,490 after its Xbox launch, surpassing previous highs.
    2. The surge in players led to server overload and crashes, affecting both Xbox and PC users.
    3. Arrowhead Game Studios upgraded server capacity multiple times, from 250,000 to a final cap of 700,000.
    4. The Xbox release marks Helldivers 2 as the first Sony-published exclusive available on Xbox.
    5. A new Helldivers 2 x Halo ODST Warbond bundle is available for purchase, featuring exclusive in-game items.

Arrowhead Game Studio’s popular third-person cooperative shooter, Helldivers 2, has experienced a significant surge in players following its launch on Xbox. This influx has drawn many new and returning gamers, pushing the game’s servers to their breaking point.

    Player Count Breaks Records

An Arrowhead developer confirmed on Helldivers’ official Discord server that the number of players reached levels that far exceeded previous records. At one point, the total player count after the Xbox release peaked at 500,490, surpassing the previous all-time high of 458,709 on Steam from about a year and a half ago.

Community posts and in-game statistics show that the player count was between 380,000 and 420,000 concurrent users on the day of the Xbox launch. According to SteamDB, 167,795 of those players were on PC, which implies that more than 250,000 active players were on consoles, with most being Xbox players.

    Server Overload and Crashes

Despite the excitement, developers clarified that the actual peak player count was 500,490, which led to server overload and crashes. At one point, nearly 390,000 players were battling the Terminid, Illuminate, and Automaton factions when a widespread server crash caused the count to plummet to 146,818.

Players quickly reported issues with in-game crashes on Xbox, which hindered their ability to get past the initial cutscenes and rejoin sessions. Even PC players faced connectivity problems during this surge in player activity.

    Continuous Server Upgrades

Arrowhead Game Studios had previously worked to upgrade the server capacity due to their game’s unexpected success. Initially, the server cap was raised to 250,000, then to 360,000, and finally to 700,000.

The release of Helldivers 2 on Xbox marks a notable milestone as it is the first Sony-published exclusive to be available on Xbox. This coincided with the Xbox-exclusive Gears of War: Reloaded launching on PlayStation.

In conjunction with this release, players can purchase the new Helldivers 2 x Halo ODST Warbond for 2,100 Super Credits or $19.99. This bundle includes the A-9 Helljumper Set, the MA5C Assault Rifle, the Mean Green Hellpod, the M7S SMG, the A-35 Armor Set, and the Eye of Clandestine Cape.

Helldivers 2 Tease Fuels Halo PS5 and Xbox Cross-Platform Rumors

    Key Takeaways

    1. Helldivers 2 launches on Xbox on August 26th, moving away from platform exclusivity.
    2. The “Bring the Boom” trailer hints at possible Halo content for PlayStation.
    3. Dataminer Grunt.api suggests upcoming Halo titles for PS5, including Project Ekur.
    4. Project Ekur may feature a Battle Royale mode for Halo Infinite, detected on Microsoft’s PlayFab.
    5. More Xbox titles on PS5 could benefit the Halo franchise after mixed reactions to Halo Infinite and the recent end of its TV series.

The Helldivers 2 is set to launch on Xbox on August 26th, marking another move away from platform exclusivity. A recently released trailer for the game might also hint at Halo making its way to PlayStation. Previous reports suggested that several PS5 titles inspired by the shooter are currently being developed.

    Trailer Hints at New Possibilities

In the “Bring the Boom” trailer, viewers can spot a drop pod descending from the dark sky. The background music from Halo 3: OSDT adds to the excitement among fans. The video is available on both the official PlayStation and Xbox channels, indicating that Halo content might be coming to both platforms.

    Leaks and Speculations

Curiously, there had been whispers about potential Halo games for PS5 even before the trailer’s release. In June, a dataminer known as Grunt.api uncovered hints in the Xbox API about upcoming titles aimed at the PlayStation. Recently, the Rebs Gaming YouTube channel shared further insights regarding this discovery.

Grunt.api, who has a solid track record of leaking accurate Halo information, suggests that one of the titles may be Project Ekur. This game, developed by Certain Affinity, could include a Battle Royale mode for Halo Infinite. Signs of this enigmatic project were detected on Microsoft’s PlayFab, which supports multiplayer and cloud save features for cross-platform games.

    Future of the Franchise

Additionally, the data mining has pointed to two other possible releases, one of which is a beta. Regardless of their specific functions, the introduction of more Xbox titles on the PS5 could be advantageous for the franchise. After the mixed reception of Halo Infinite on PC and Xbox, the TV series based on the IP wrapped up in 2024. The Helldivers 2 DLC might serve as the initial step to revive the series, with the potential for Halo games on PS5 to follow.

  • Sony VP: PlayStation Shifts Focus to Cross-Platform Games

Sony VP: PlayStation Shifts Focus to Cross-Platform Games

    Key Takeaways

    1. Shift in Sony’s Strategy: Sony is moving from a hardware-centered model to a platform business, potentially increasing cross-platform games.

    2. Cross-Platform Games Increasing: Analysts view the release of Helldivers 2 on Xbox as a sign of more cross-platform games to come, with Microsoft benefiting from launching titles on PS5.

    3. Declining Xbox Console Sales: Sales for Xbox Series X and S have declined due to fewer exclusive games, despite Microsoft’s success with some titles on rival platforms.

    4. Strong PS5 Sales: Sony continues to sell PS5 consoles well, with over 80 million sold, and is believed to be developing the PS6 and a new handheld device.

    5. Brand Recognition vs. Exclusivity: Sony’s strong brand recognition may allow them to sell consoles without exclusive titles, while also generating revenue from music and films.

Many experts are puzzled about what Microsoft plans to do regarding exclusive games and consoles. At the same time, the strategy of its competitor has also grown less distinct lately. A job listing hinted that PlayStation might start offering more exclusive titles on different platforms. Recently, a Sony executive provided the clearest signal so far that the brand is going to prioritize cross-platform games.

    Sony’s Shift in Focus

The Genki_JPN social media account captured the recent remarks from Sony Senior Vice President Sadahiko Hayakawa. He stated, “In the gaming business, we are moving away from a hardware-centered business model more to a platform business that expands the community and increases engagement.” These comments, especially when translated from Japanese, can often be misunderstood. However, many fans are now convinced that more PlayStation exclusive games could show up on Xbox, PC, and maybe even Switch 2.

    Cross-Platform Games on the Rise

For some analysts, the choice to bring Helldivers 2 to Xbox was a sign of more cross-platform games to come. Microsoft has already seen gains by launching first-party titles on the PS5. Successful examples include Forza Motorsport and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle. Yet, with fewer reasons for gamers to buy the Xbox Series X or S, the sales of these consoles have started to decline.

What is perplexing for PlayStation fans is that hardware sales for the brand are still robust. Sony recently revealed that over 80 million PS5 consoles have been sold. Moreover, it’s thought that the PS6 is currently in the works, possibly along with a new handheld device. However, promoting new systems without the presence of PlayStation exclusive games would mark a significant change in their approach.

    Brand Recognition vs. Exclusive Titles

Sony might believe that its brand recognition is strong enough to continue selling PS5 and PS6 consoles independently. Many consumers choose consoles because they are easier to use than PCs. Yet, some PC gamers still keep PlayStation consoles to access first-party games instead of cross-platform options.

The future that Hayakawa envisions places a greater emphasis on “creation.” He mentioned that 60% of Sony’s revenue is generated not just from gaming, but also from music and films. PlayStation Productions has already made its mark in various cinema chains with its movies. Nintendo employs a similar tactic with films and theme parks but has not yet released most of its exclusives on rival platforms.
