GoPro was not planing to showcase any new action cameras untill April 18 during this year’s National Association of Broadcasters Show (NAB). Yesterday, we reported that the company has started distributing a new action camera to influencers. At the time, we thought that it might be the Hero 14 Black, considering GoPro’s regular Hero series releases until the Hero 13 Black (current $379).
Introduction of the Mission Series
Now, the company has shifted its focus to the Mission 1 series, which includes the Mission 1, Mission 1 Pro, and Mission 1 Pro ILS. All these models are powered by GoPro’s new GP3 processor, and only the ILS version is compatible with MFT (Micro Four Thirds) lenses. The three cameras are equipped with a new 1-inch, 50 MP sensor that can shoot in 8K/60 FPS, 4K/240 FPS, or 1080p/960 FPS modes. This brings a significant upgrade in video quality and recording options.
Feature Enhancements and Video Capabilities
Furthermore, the Mission 1 series supports Open Gate video with the full 4:3 sensor capture, offering 8K/30 FPS for the Pro models and 4K/120 FPS for the standard Mission 1. The battery life is impressive, with the cameras capable of recording over 3 hours in 4K/30 FPS mode using the existing Enduro 2 batteries. Other notable features include four microphones for enhanced audio with 32-bit float recording, Bluetooth 5.3 support, and waterproof capabilities up to 20 meters deep. These improvements indicate a focus on versatile, high-quality content creation in various environments.
Pre-order and Release Timeline
The company has announced that pre-orders for the Mission 1, Mission 1 Pro, and Mission 1 Pro Grip Edition will start globally on May 21, with shipping anticipated to begin a week later, on May 28. Meanwhile, the Creator Edition, Pro Ultimate Creator Edition, and ILS models will not be available until July 2026 at the earliest or September 2026 at the latest.
