Starting on January 21st, the legendary action-adventure, God of War Ragnarok, takes center stage. Also noteworthy is Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name, a spin-off of the beloved Japanese crime drama series. These games are part of the nine titles being added to the PlayStation Plus Premium Tier, with two more included in the PlayStation Plus Extra Tier.

    The God of War franchise has persuaded many gamers to buy Sony consoles, beginning with its introduction on the PS2 back in 2005. God of War Ragnarok features a gripping narrative rooted in Scandinavian mythology. This game offers an epic journey, surpassing expectations in terms of content and playtime. Many of the complaints were about the inaccurate Wii motion controls, but PS5 users can use regular controllers. For both Indiana Jones and the Staff of Kings and Medievil 2, players will require a PlayStation Plus Platinum tier subscription.

    PlayStation Plus games are only available for a limited time, so don’t hesitate. Once you download a title, it stays available for as long as you have a subscription.

However, despite being one of the most popular games of 2024 (aside from the PSN controversy), Helldivers 2 did not make a significant impact in any category.

    Despite the well-received story and engaging gameplay, Ragnarök is facing significant backlash. Out of approximately 2,600 reviews on Steam, only 67 percent are positive. In contrast, the previous game (God of War 2018) boasts an "extremely positive" rating with 96 percent positive feedback from over 90,000 reviews. The primary criticism from players revolves around the need to create a PlayStation Network account for what is essentially a single-player experience. Many users on Reddit express their frustration, questioning the necessity of an online account for a game that lacks any online features. Additionally, there are concerns regarding security.

    Previous Trends and Future Prospects

    This requirement is not new for PlayStation. Games like Ghost of Tsushima and Helldivers 2 also forced PC players to create a PSN account. However, Sony recently reversed this policy with Helldivers 2, eliminating the account requirement.
