Citizen Spain has unveiled two new military-inspired watches in their latest catalog: the AW1870-08A and the AW1877-09X. These models showcase a traditional field watch aesthetic, emphasizing visibility and durability over extra features. Each watch comes with a 40 mm case diameter and a thickness of 10.4 mm, offering a more compact and historically accurate design compared to the larger 43 mm Citizen aviation chronographs we previously discussed.

    Design Features

The AW1870-08A sports a silver-tone steel case paired with a matte white dial, displaying bold black Arabic numerals. It also includes a red minute track for added contrast, while the black hands are coated with luminous material to enhance visibility in dim conditions. On the other hand, the AW1877-09X takes on a more modern “stealth” look. It features a grey PVD-coated steel case and a textured olive green dial. Both models come with robust green nylon straps, complete with traditional buckle closures, staying true to the essence of a “field watch.”

    Movement and Specifications

Both watches are powered by the Caliber J810 Eco-Drive movement, a light-powered quartz mechanism that offers an 8-month power reserve when fully charged. They also come with a simple date display located at the 3 o’clock mark. The watches are rated for 10-bar (100-meter) water resistance and feature a threaded (screw-down) case back. However, some buyers might find the use of mineral glass instead of sapphire to be a drawback. In Spain, the pricing starts at €143.10 (about $169.45 USD) for the silver model and €152.10 (around $180.10 USD) for the grey PVD version.
