Bajaj Trademark Filing Hints at Possible Electric Scooter Offering

Recent trademark filings by Bajaj, the renowned two-wheel giant, suggest that the Indian company may be gearing up to introduce an electric scooter to its lineup. Bajaj has enjoyed global recognition and success since its partnership with KTM in 2007, with models like the KTM 390 and Husqvarna 401 showcasing its global presence. Furthermore, Bajaj has been entrusted with the development of the Husqvarna Vektorr, an electric scooter platform.

The Bajaj Vector Trademark

Motorcycle website BikeWale recently discovered a Bajaj trademark filing for the name "Vector." Further confirmation came when the Bajaj Vector appeared in a search on India's IP online service. The trademark filing falls under Class 12, which covers Automobiles, Land Vehicles, Motorcycles, and Electric Vehicles. The filing itself was made on August 16, 2023. Sources close to Bajaj have suggested that the Vector is a new electric scooter. However, it remains unclear whether the Vector is the same as the Husqvarna Vektorr, now bearing the Bajaj moniker.

Elevating Bajaj's Presence in the EV Market

If the Bajaj Vector does indeed become a reality, it will join the Bajaj Chetak, an electric scooter that has already been on the market for some time. The Vector is expected to offer more premium features than the Chetak, positioning Bajaj as a significant player in the Indian EV two-wheeler market. While established brands like Ola Electric and Ather currently dominate the market, the launch of a new Bajaj offering could potentially reshape the market outlook.

Tapping into the Growing Demand

Bajaj appears to be strategically positioning itself to tap into the increasing demand for lightweight electric motorcycles in India, as well as parts of Europe and Asia. Many traditional manufacturers are now incorporating EV two-wheelers into their business models. Multiple sightings of a prototype Bajaj e-scooter undergoing testing have further fueled speculation. However, it remains uncertain whether the Vector is the next Bajaj e-scooter offering or if the company is simply safeguarding the name for future use.
