Coros Update: New Battery Warnings Now Available for Users

The Coros January 2025 Feature Update is currently being rolled out to users. This update was announced last month and introduces new features and enhancements related to activities and connected accessories. Additionally, there are some optimizations specifically for the Dura GPS bike computer, which is currently priced at $249 on Amazon.

Changes to Activity Management

With this update, there are notable changes to how activities are managed. Users can now modify the activity type associated with a workout even after it has been saved in the Coros app, although there are some restrictions. For instance, activities like running, hiking, or walking can be changed to Run, Track Run, Trail Run, Mountain Climb, Hike, or Walk. Cyclists have similar options, but Fitness Tests cannot be modified. Furthermore, there are new activity data field metrics available, such as the power-to-weight ratio, and users can also recover activities that were deleted within the last 30 days.

Improved Navigation and Accessory Connectivity

According to the release notes, Turn-by-Turn alerts can now be saved as a data field for an activity, making it simpler to follow your route. Coros mentions that it has enhanced the connectivity of paired accessories for different smartwatch models and the Dura. You are now able to personalize the name of the accessory and receive notifications when the battery is running low. Moreover, Dura users will enjoy a redesigned homepage that shows the time, date, and temperature, along with several new data fields.

Sibel Health and Maruho Launch AI Wearable for Eczema Relief

Sibel Health has teamed up with Maruho to jointly develop and bring to market the ADAM AI wearable, which aims to help lessen the scratching for individuals suffering from itchy skin.

Understanding Itchy Skin

Itchy skin, medically known as atopic dermatitis or eczema, triggers a strong desire to scratch, known as pruritus, and can stem from various factors like genetics, bacteria, and allergies. Many people struggle with uncontrollable scratching, even during their sleep. While topical creams and medications can help manage eczema, they may also carry harmful side effects.

The ADAM Sensor

Sibel has produced the single-use ADAM sensor to track different health metrics for research purposes. These metrics include body position, cough frequency, heart rate, respiratory rate, sleep quality, skin temperature, and instances of scratching.

Enhancements to the Device

Recently, the company incorporated a rotating mass motor that generates 1.4 G of vibratory force at 10,000 RPM into the ADAM sensor, enabling the wearable to give haptic feedback. To perfect the vibration settings, 20 participants were surveyed to choose their preferred option from 19 different profiles, ultimately favoring a strong, 1-second alert. The ADAM wearable was then updated to gather data at 1,666 Hz using the internal accelerometer, allowing for real-time data analysis to train a convolutional recurrent neural network (CRNN). The AI underwent training and validation for precision. Additional signal processing and clustering methods were applied to minimize false positives in scratch detection.

Study Results

In a preliminary study published in JAMA Dermatology, researchers monitored 10 patients who wore the haptic ADAM device on the back of their dominant hand for 104 nights. With the haptic feedback feature activated, the ADAM wearable led to a 28% decrease in total scratch events and a 50% reduction in scratching duration per hour during sleep when scratching occurred.

Future Directions

The precise mechanism by which the vibrations help curb scratching remains uncertain, but the partnership with Maruho aims to explore this while also commercializing the ADAM. Casio GA010 and GD010 Watches with 10-Year Battery Now in US

The Casio G-Shock GA010-1A1 and GD010-1A1 timepieces have officially made their debut in the United States. These watches were initially introduced in Japan back in January and have recently also been launched in Europe, where they are referred to as the GA-010-1A1 and GD-010-1A1.

The GA010-1A1 is a hybrid model, while the GD010-1A1 is strictly digital. Both versions are described by Casio as large-case G-Shock watches, featuring a negative display that includes a dark backdrop with light numbers. A central button is available to activate the LED backlight, making it easier to read the dial. Additionally, both models benefit from an impressive estimated battery life of 10 years with a single CR2025 battery.

Features and Pricing

The GA010 model showcases world time functionality, offering 31 different time zones. It also has a hand shift feature that helps to move the hands out of the way of the digital display. Other features include a 1/100-second stopwatch, five alarms, and a 60-minute countdown timer. New Casio G-Shock BG-169 Watches with Telememo Launching Soon

Casio is set to introduce two new G-Shock Baby-G BG-169 Cherry on Top watches in the UK. The pink BG-169CH-4ER and the yellow BG-169CH-9ER have both been listed on the G-Shock UK “Coming Soon” page.

These two BG-169 models feature multiple references to cherries, including cherry-inspired colors and a red cherry design that appears on the digital screen when the LED backlight is activated. They can show the time in either 12 or 24-hour formats, along with the current date and day of the week. Additional functionalities include five daily alarms, a countdown timer that goes up to 24 hours, and a stopwatch that measures in 1/100th seconds.
