  • IKEA Parasoll Smart Home Sensor Adds Exciting New Feature

IKEA Parasoll Smart Home Sensor Adds Exciting New Feature

IKEA has updated its iOS app, adding a new ability for the Parasoll door/window sensor. This device, part of the smart home lineup, was introduced in 2023 along with the Vallhorn motion sensor. The Parasoll is designed to alert you when a door or window is opened unexpectedly, sending push notifications, sounding alarms, or activating a connected smart light.

New Features for the Parasoll Sensor

With the arrival of version 1.39.0 of the IKEA Home smart app for iOS, a new feature has been added for the Parasoll. Users can now set reminders that will activate if the door or window equipped with the sensor stays open for a prolonged time. This could be particularly handy for a garage door that might be left open after returning home. However, it remains uncertain if users can set their own time limits before receiving these alerts.

    Important Connection Requirements

It’s essential for users to know that notifications can only be sent if the Parasoll sensor is connected to a Dirigera hub. As of now, the IKEA Home smart app for Android is still on version 1.33.0 and does not include this new functionality, with no clear timeline for when it might be added for those users. You can get the latest version of the IKEA Home smart app from the Apple App Store. A similar feature for detecting when a door is left open is also found in the YoLink Door Sensor, currently priced at $16.99 on Amazon.

  • Nitecore EDC23 Saber: Compact Flat Torch with Display

Nitecore EDC23 Saber: Compact Flat Torch with Display

Nitecore has launched a very compact flashlight, the EDC23 Saber, which features USB-C charging within its EDC (Everyday Carry) lineup. Measuring around 10 centimeters in length and weighing 100 grams, it stands out as the tiniest model in the collection, while still embodying some pros and cons typical of EDC devices.

    Features and Limitations

A clear drawback is that the built-in 1,500 mAh battery is non-removable. However, the flashlight incorporates the advantages of the larger EDC20 models, including an OLED display that shows status and allows for power adjustment. Additionally, the EDC23 Saber includes a slide switch designed to prevent accidental activation of the flashlight.

    Brightness and Performance

The flashlight utilizes UHI-25 LEDs that emit a cool white light (6,500K, with slight variations promised by Nitecore) and can produce a maximum brightness of 2,500 lumens, covering a distance of 280 meters. This brightness level is in turbo mode, which reduces automatically if the flashlight overheats, yet it remains functional even when the battery is low. In the 1,100 lumens mode, Nitecore assures that the flashlight can operate for extended durations, as heat is evenly distributed throughout the body of the torch.

    Battery Life and Durability

In terms of battery performance, the EDC23 lasts 1 hour and 30 minutes on high mode at 1,100 lumens. There are additional modes available, including a mid setting (200 lumens for 3 hours and 45 minutes), a low mode (65 lumens for 11 hours), and an ultra-low mode with 15 lumens that lasts for 39 hours. A strobe function is also included. Furthermore, the flashlight has an IP54 rating, indicating it is resistant to shocks.

The EDC23 is anticipated to hit store shelves soon, but Nitecore has not yet disclosed the pricing details.

  • Fenix LD45R Flashlight with Digital Zoom and OLED Display

Fenix LD45R Flashlight with Digital Zoom and OLED Display

Fenix has launched a new LED flashlight with a cool color temperature of 6,500K. This flashlight features a status display and a rotary control that allows users to toggle between spotlight and floodlight modes. Fenix refers to this device as a “digitally focusable torch,” but they don’t clarify the internal mechanism, such as whether it uses a reflector or an optic.

    Brightness and Range Settings

The flashlight’s rotary control can turn 270°, letting users adjust the brightness up to a maximum of 2,800 lumens as needed. Fenix claims that the flashlight can reach a distance of 480 meters. Users can also view setting information on a small built-in OLED display, which shows battery life and lumen levels.

    Different Lighting Options

This device offers five brightness levels along with strobe and SOS modes, with the lowest setting being 20 lumens. Fenix mentions that the replaceable 21700 rechargeable battery, which has an 18 watt-hour capacity, can last for 65 hours. However, when used in high mode at 1,000 lumens, runtime drops to 2 hours and 50 minutes. Turbo mode is a bit more complicated.

    Battery Limitations

In turbo mode, providing 2,800 lumens, the flashlight runs for 2 hours and 40 minutes. However, this duration includes a dimming phase after some time. The graph below (marked by a red line) shows that the actual runtime of turbo mode quickly falls under the 1,000 lumen setting just after a few minutes. Therefore, it’s best to start with a fully charged torch if you plan to use turbo mode.

The 21700 rechargeable battery can stay in the flashlight for charging through a USB-C port. Nonetheless, Fenix has issued a peculiar warning regarding battery replacement. They stress that using the Fenix ARB-L21-5000, Fenix ARB-L21-5000U, or other smaller models is strictly forbidden. The reason given is that the flashlight requires up to 15 amps, while other batteries only provide 14 amps, according to Fenix. The only acceptable battery is the ARB-L21-5000 V2.0, as mentioned on their overview page. Yet, further down, Fenix seems to contradict themselves by also endorsing the ARB-L21-6000 and ARB-L21-4000P models.

    Product Availability and Pricing

The flashlight measures around 16 cm in length and weighs 300 grams. It is expected to be available soon, with a price tag of just under $160 on the Fenix Store.

  • Baseus Nomos Charging Stations Launch with Slim Design and Retractable Cable

Baseus Nomos Charging Stations Launch with Slim Design and Retractable Cable

Baseus has introduced two new desktop charging hubs under its Nomos series of charging accessories. One of these models exclusively uses USB and offers a maximum power output of 140W. The other model, touted as “the world’s slimmest charging station,” is designed for those who travel often and features additional AC outlets, though it has a lower output of 67W and lacks a retractable cable. Here’s a closer look at both products:

Baseus Nomos 5-in-1 Retractable Desktop Charger Qi2 140W

Baseus asserts this device is the first desktop charger in the world to feature a retractable cable. The built-in Type-C cable measures 80 cm (2.6 ft) and can deliver a powerful 100W. It smoothly retracts into the charger, reducing mess on your desktop. Additionally, this model includes one USB-A port and two Type-C ports, with one capable of supplying the full 140W by itself.

The wireless charger, certified by Qi2, offers 15W charging and can fold to a 60° angle. It is also magnetized, ensuring your device stays in place while charging. An LCD screen allows users to easily check the charging status and power distribution for each connection.

With dimensions of 12.24 x 9.25 x 3.56 cm (4.82 x 3.64 x 1.4 inches) and a weight of 480 g (1.05 lb), this charger is compact enough for travel. Moreover, the AC power cord is detachable for convenience.

You can find the Nomos 5-in-1 Retractable Desktop Charger on Amazon for $149.

Baseus Nomos 8-in-1 Slim Charging Station Qi2 67W

Claimed to be “the world’s slimmest charging station,” this device measures just 1.7 cm (0.67 inches) thick. While it doesn’t match the power output of its counterpart and lacks the retractable cable feature, it compensates with three AC outlets for extra chargers or small devices. It includes one Type-A port and three Type-C ports, along with a folding, magnetic 15W Qi2 wireless charger.

This model weighs 680 g (1.5 lb) and, similar to the 5-in-1 variant, it features an LCD display and a 5 ft detachable power cable, which is likely proprietary and not very common. The AC outlets support devices rated under 1250W or a total of 10 Amperes.

The Nomos 8-in-1 Slim Charging Station is priced at $89 on Amazon.
