Capcom Spotlight Highlights: Key Moments from Latest Showcase

On February 4, Capcom held a Spotlight event where they showcased Street Fighter 6 and Onimusha as the main attractions, along with several other games.

New Characters and Competitions in Street Fighter 6

Mai Shiranui has been added as the second guest character for Street Fighter 6, making her the second SNK fighter to join the roster. She is a ninjutsu fighter known for her flashy moves and unlockable cosmetics inspired by her original game, Fatal Fury. Additionally, Street Fighter fans are eagerly awaiting the reveal of the last guest character, Elena, which will be unveiled later. In another exciting announcement, the 11th Capcom Cup is set for March 5th, where the champion of Street Fighter 6 will be determined. For the second consecutive time, the prize pool is an impressive one million dollars. More details on how to get tickets can be found here.

Marvel vs Capcom and Fighting Collection Expansions

During the Spotlight, the Marvel vs Capcom Fighting Collection was featured, with the Xbox One version being launched at the end of the presentation. Quick clips of various games included in the collection were shown, highlighting fan favorites from the franchise, such as Marvel Vs Capcom 2: New Age of Heroes. The collection will consist of seven different games, with online play being a significant feature promised to players.

Moreover, Capcom announced Capcom Fighting Collection 2, which will include both crossover and 3D fighters, also boasting online play. This collection will be available on May 16th for PC and all current generation consoles. Games like Capcom vs SNK and the Power Stone series were highlighted in this collection. While not every game may appeal to everyone, it’s great to see Capcom re-releasing their classic fighting games for those interested.

Teasers and New Game Announcements

Capcom also revealed a teaser for the Okami sequel once more. Hideki Kamiya, who directed the first game, is returning to work with Capcom on this new installment. Fans have been eagerly waiting for this sequel, and with this announcement, many (including me) are hoping the long wait will prove worthwhile.

Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess made a brief appearance, announcing a new demo version is now available for players wanting to experience the action-strategy blend of this game. For those excited about both the Okami sequel and those wanting to try this new title, a new bundle for Okami HD and Kunitsu-Gami was also showcased.

Onimusha Returns After Two Decades

Last year, it was revealed that Onimusha is finally getting another mainline game after 20 years, titled Onimusha: Way of the Sword. Capcom shared an exclusive teaser trailer, confirming a release date sometime in 2026, with the game coming to PS5, Xbox Series S, and Steam. Producer Akihito Kadowaki explained that the team aims to use Capcom’s latest technology to create an engaging experience. He also mentioned that players can expect a fresh protagonist set in Kyoto, facing visually and mechanically interesting enemies. You can watch the full trailer here.

In conjunction with this trailer, a full remaster of Onimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny was announced, set to launch on PS4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and Steam in 2025.
