Atari has unveiled the Atari 7800+, a contemporary iteration of the beloved 1986 console. This updated model is more compact and robust, featuring an HDMI port for seamless connectivity to modern televisions and monitors.
Pricing and Compatibility
The Atari 7800+ is available for $129.99 and supports both Atari 2600 and 7800 game cartridges, providing gamers access to an extensive library of classic titles. Included with the console is a copy of Bentley Bear’s Crystal Quest and a USB-C cable.
Display Options and Cartridge Compatibility
For those seeking a genuine retro experience, the Atari 7800+ offers the ability to toggle between widescreen and 4:3 aspect ratios, allowing for versatile game display options. Additionally, the console is designed with a larger cartridge socket to minimize issues with cartridge insertion, enhancing compatibility with a wider selection of games.
Atari CX78+ Wireless Gamepad and CX40+ Wireless Joystick
In addition to the console, Atari has introduced the CX78+ Wireless Gamepad (bundled with the Atari 7800+) and the CX40+ Wireless Joystick, each priced at $34.99. The CX78+ Wireless Gamepad provides up to 25 hours of battery life and charges via USB-C. The CX40+ Wireless Joystick, which works with the Atari 2600+ and all original Atari systems through the included DB9 wireless adapter, offers up to 30 hours of battery life and also charges via USB-C. Both controllers are compatible with PCs using the provided USB-A adapter.
The Atari 7800+ and its accessories are scheduled for release in the winter of 2024, with pre-orders currently available.
