8BitDo has launched numerous controllers this year, featuring different versions of the Ultimate 2C. Among them, the most distinctive is the 8BitDo 64, which has been chosen by Analogue to accompany its new product aimed at emulating Nintendo 64 (N64) games.
Unique Launch Strategy
While Analogue decided to offer pre-orders for the Analogue 3D in both black and white at the same time, 8BitDo took a different approach with its controller. Strangely, it chose to release the 8BitDo 64 only in white initially. Additionally, customers were unable to buy 8BitDo's controller alongside Analogue's, which added to the confusion.
Pre-Order Update
As noted by sources like Joey's Retro Handhelds, 8BitDo has quietly begun pre-orders for the black version of this new controller. In essence, the 8BitDo 64 closely resembles the Brawler64 that Retro Fighters has been offering for some time.
Features and Availability
Nevertheless, 8BitDo has incorporated a Hall effect joystick to enhance accuracy and durability, as well as better connectivity features to work with more systems. However, the 8BitDo 64 does not support Memory Pak and Transfer Pak accessories. At the moment, 8BitDo is aiming to start shipping the black pre-orders on March 19, 2025. Similar to the white model, the black 8BitDo 64 is priced at $39.99 on Amazon.
