Xiaomi Launches Lightweight 4G Public Network Intercom Mini

Xiaomi has introduced a new in-ear communication device that’s set to launch crowdfunding in China soon. The Chinese name for the device translates to the Xiaomi Public Network Intercom Mini in English. It’s aimed at various uses, such as in hospitality, beauty salons, and dental offices.

    Device Features

The Xiaomi Public Network Intercom Mini seems to function as a Push to Talk Over Cellular (PTTOC or POC) gadget, allowing one-on-one or group communications. It comes with a built-in SIM that supports China’s 4G network, offering a range of up to 5,000 km (around 3,107 miles). However, it’s important to mention that data is free only for the first year, and the device requires a network connection to operate.

    Connectivity and Design

Xiaomi claims users can easily connect multiple units when they are close to each other, with additional controls accessible through the Xiaomi app. The device is compact and lightweight, weighing 35g (about 1.2 oz), and features a clip for easy attachment to clothing. The wired earpiece that comes with it has a hook design, weighs 11g (approximately 0.4 oz), and can be worn on either ear. With a 470 mah battery that charges via USB-C, the device is said to provide up to 43 hours of standby time or about 25 hours of typical usage.

    Crowdfunding Details

Those interested can pledge CNY 179 (around $24) to the Xiaomi Youpin crowdfunding campaign starting on January 7th, with shipping expected to begin on January 15th. Following the campaign, the Xiaomi Public Network Intercom Mini is anticipated to be priced at CNY 199 (roughly $27). It remains uncertain if or when the device will be available in markets like North America, although other Xiaomi wearables, such as the Smart Band 9, can be found there for $47.70 on Amazon.
